The first major battle in this war was, the Battle of Pusan Perimeter the UN and South Korean forces make a final stand in the southeast corner of Korea. This was the battle over the last major strong hold in the south. Luckily the perimeter was held and the North Koreans couldn’t break through. This set the stage for the following battles.

The next battle that took place was the battle of Inchon. While a majority of troops were fighting at the Pusan perimeter, general MacArthur had another idea. To land troops far behind the enemy lines at Inchon. MacArthur insisted on it, famously calling it a “50-to-1 gamble” and won approval. This tactic caused them to start invading from the back side of the North Koreans back side and even taking their capital from them. This caused the troops between the capital and at Pusan were surrounded.

After all the success with the Inchon the UN forced their way north. They advanced all the way to the border of china. China launched a surprise attack and surrounded the UN forces. During this battle it as so cold frostbite killed more than bullets. The UN forces being out numbered 10:1 for over 2 weeks on brutal mountain terrain. They finally rushed toward hungnam a port they could escape at. One of the most legendary battles in this war even with the extras conditions the UN had minimal losses compared to the Chinese.
