The Visual Learner - Anna

Visual teaching/learning style (approach) puts its major emphasis on interlacing visual materials during the learning process — such as graphics.

As such, a visual learner will be definitely encouraged by learning via images, posters, flow charts, diagrams, maps, flash-cards, videos, and slideshows. Thus, it is always recommended to use visual tools as much as possible in order to ease learning processes.

The lessons should take place either in a language-laboratory, a classroom equipped with audio-visual devices (such as: computers and a projector), or in a classroom which is designated to contain posters, maps, charts, etc.

Therefore, as part of our lesson plan on the Past Simple tense; I would suggest using the following visual components:

Firstly, showing the students a brief video-clip taken from the known film: “Kong Fu-Panda 2” (using a Past Simple tense dialogue).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4B43IIq-Sg [accessed: 23/11/2017].

Afterwards, the dialogue could be presented in form of a flow chart (this type of tool frequently facilitates the learning process, especially when the students learn new stories).

At the third stage, each of the earlier presented sentences will be written in form of incompleted sentences that should be filled-in with the appropriate form (and presented later on PPT slides). The students will be tasked to drag the right words into the blanks.

For the closing activity, the students will be divided (for instance) into groups of six. Each group will receive flash-cards with different verbs. They will be assigned to structure sentences — while using the proper V2 form.

Using a series of sequential pictures, the student will put the pictures in order of the events and write a paragraph describing what happened in the past simple tense.
4. The students create flash cards with different parts of speech, ( noun, verb, adjective, etc.) and then build sentences with the words in past simple tense.
