- Kindergarten is the new first grade as some might say with Common Core expecting them to be able to read by the time they exit Kindergarten.
- Some students come in knowing all letters and sounds, while others come in with only knowing a few uppercase letters as their only starting point.
- When creating lessons that work towards the different reading levels, students will be more engaged and responsive to the material at hand to learn.

Lexia Reading Core 5 allows students to be motivated by their own success and chose their own learning path to accomplish the learning.
Learner Characteristics:
Varied Reading Level: While using Lexia Reading Core 5, students are placed into the level that best suits their reading level and skills. From there students are able to work through the program at their own level. Supports are given throughout the program if the student needs reinforcement, computer instruction, or teacher instruction.

Student Interest: With Lexia Reading Core 5, students are able to chose which skill they prefer to work on within the level.
