In the evening of 5 December children clean their boots and put them in the window. By the next morning good children receive sweets, chocolate,candy and differentnuts in their boots and bad children receive a “virgács”. A virgács is often painted gold and is sold on the streets. Basically it can be simple twigs or branches from a bush tied together. St Nick travels on a sleigh pulled by deer, but he doesn’t come in through the chimney as he would end up in the stove and that is dangerous.
Saint Nicholas had a reputation for secret gift-giving, such as putting coins in the shoes of those who left them out for him, a practice celebrated on hisfeast day, December 6.

When the ornaments are all hung and the presents are ready, the parents ring a bell and the kids come running out to find the Christmas tree and their presents.

People start making Lucy's stool on December 13.
Every day, they can only make one move on the stool, and on the 24th it has to be finished.
On December 24th people have to take it to the midnight mass and stand on it.
Standing on it, they can see who is a witch, and who is not.
My teacher's grandmother actually tried it, and she said it worked.
