-Consonant: Letters other than a, e, i, o, and u generally represent consonant sounds. W and y have the characteristics of consonants when they appear in the initial position in a word syllable. 

-Long Vowel Sound: A long vowel is a vowel is pronounced the same as the letter. For example, the "U" is pronounced like "you" not like "a" which would be the sound of a shoert vowel. Sometimes a long vowel is combined with another vowel.

-CVCEe Spelling Platform: CVC Pattern. This is a pattern that can be found in words such as cat, pop, and kid.
