The thunder was a mighty lion. I could hear the roaring of the wind as it slammed against the windows. Cats and dogs fell from the sky. The storm will never cease
Lightning lit up the pitch black sky I was as terrified as a mouse. Terrible clouds towered above me.
Lightning the size of the universe flashed across the sky. Thunder boomed and shook the ground.
I was terrified. Emily rubbed her teary and red eyes once more, now filled with a gleam of joy.
"Finally! The pain and suffering is over! I finally get to drink water!'' Emily exclaimed. Eva looked at her like she was a person in need of therapy. Emily took out her water bottle and started chugging down water like she never drank before.

As Abby waited for her turn to ride the roller coaster at the attractive fun fair, she could hear peaceful music floating into her ears from the fun fair's café. The other rides were clashing thunder to her, roaring at its lungs as it zoomed around the track. The people riding it was no use, screaming their heads off like banshees. Abby was sure that she would be deaf like an old granny with dementia. All together, the din was shrieking at Abby.
Abby wanted a quieter place. She went to the spa at the fair and it was as quiet as mice there. The young ladies there to massage you were dressed as pretty as princesses from fairy tale balls. They were dressed in a pale gold gown with pink rose flowers painted on it and tiny gold and pink sparkles were coated at the frills. One young lady called Trista Terrace smiled at her and Abby smiled back sweetly like the honey from bees. Trista was almost like the queens from the fairy tales.
Abby decided that she didn't need the roller coaster ride anymore. That young lady's massage was sure to make her day.

Charlotte gazed into the night sky as she lay on the floor of her balcony. It was the first day at Paris for her. She was not adapting to it. The night sky twinkled at her, showing their bright stars like a big universe showing its gleaming teeth. Charlotte smiled back at the stars weakly, but she couldn't. Her brother, a wise boy who only lived until the age of 18 and died last year, had once told Charlotte that the dead will always be smiling to her and keeping up her spirits. Charlotte could not bring herself to smile when her favourite person had died. The big universe seemed like it had no ending, like a tiny ant that was wondering around the dessert or great wall of china. Charlotte's tears rolled down her rosy cheeks and before Charlotte knew it, her tears were pouring down like waterfalls after a huge thunderstorm. Her tears created a sad puddle. Her life was full of misery, misery, misery, and sorrow.

Jessi Jade walked up the path that was covered in white roses. She sniffed quietly as she gripped onto her mother's arm without her father for the first time. A long, coffin lay on a table laid with flowers and best wishes cards from relatives covered with a long, white cloth. Beside, was a portrait of a young man, hugging Jessi, and beside the photo was a card with the words 'John Jade' on it. Wishers stepped forward to wish Jessi's mother, Jennifer, luck after the loss of her husband. It was a sad day. Jessi never imagined this to happen. She could hear the little voice in her head screaming and crying furiously and howling with rage and fury to get John Jade back. After a week, Jessi and a red-eyed Jennifer Jade went out to watch the people put the coffin into the white van with flowers and ribbons. Soon, the body would be in a grave and soon...John Jade would be forgotten and gone. Jessi sniffed even more furiously, her eyes puffy now, sad that her dearest father had left the world...his wife...his daughter Jessi... Jennifer got into the van and drove off, unable to stand the sorrow anymore and wanting even more and more to join her husband in heaven, in eth afterlife. Jessi watched the mini van drive away, smaller and smaller before falling to the floor like a crumpled rose and began to sob louder than ever, wailing and screaming and clutching her hair in despair, misery, and sorrow.

As everyone screamed and played even more energetic, the nightclub's tent shook more vigorously, screaming as if wanting to say that it couldn't take the din anymore. Angela danced her way around the tent, giggling at a clown who tripped and fell. That night was never going to end. And Angela was sure that the the noise level could continue if the crowd wanted it to. Suddenly, there was a loud 'clank' or fallen metal poles and the next thing Angela knew, the thick, piece of cloth was draped around her head and a metal pole banged painfully on her head, followed by more and more. Everyone shrieked in horror as the lights went off and the music stopped. The whole chaotic mess was terrible. Angela squatted down so that no more poles would hit her and the cloth was at least a good one meter up her head. Angela crawled blindly to the exit and was kicked by someone. Angela tumbled out of the tent and watched the chaos from outside. Night had settled down. Angela then saw the problem that had knocked the tent down-fire. To the left of the tent, cackling fire licked the tent with its burning heat. Out of nowhere, a pail of water soared through the air. Then, many hoses started to spray at the crackling fire. Many people tore and ripped the tent to create a exit hole for themselves and left the others. Angela ran around the burning tent, trying to find her mother. She heard a frantic voice scream, "Angela!" from the inside of the fire. Angela gasped at the sight of her mother, cowering under the burning cloth. The fire surrounded Angela's mother and her gown caught fire. "Don't come to help me, Angela, go!" Her mother's tears leaked out at the last sight of her daughter forever. Angela was transfixed and horrified. She wanted to rush in and save her mother, or die together, but knew that it would kill her. Suddenly, flashes of a smiling face of her mother went into her brain. Angela remembered...her mother's care, her mother's warmth, her mother's loved for her...her mother had been a shelter in the storm to Angela for 13 whole years. And in 13 seconds, Angela was just going to let go of her forever? "No, mother!" Angela plumaged into the fire. She felt the killing fire burn her and she choked. She grabbed onto her shocked mother and her eyes dimmed. Then, her life ended with her mother together, mother daughter love.

~Ziqian

The wind danced next to me . I looked up at the perfect blue sky with wisps of cotton candy clouds. The poppies were waving at me begging me to join them. At that moment I felt like I was flying. The sun was radiating golden waves of peace. This moment would never stop. I could almost feel the wind whispering to me. " Woosh ...'' I looked over at the horizon the now golden sun was setting. Dyeing the clouds orange, yellow and red. I closed my eyes I was as calm as ever. I lay down on the soft lush green grass. All of a sudden my eyes jolted open.

The sky was as black as a panther. I could barely make out my hands in front of me. Then I noticed what was wrong.

It was quiet. Too quiet. I could not make out the majestic chirps of the crickets or the hoots of the wise owls. All was still even the flowing wind had come to a complete stop. For the first time in my life, I was afraid of the field, my sanctuary, my safe place, my hidden place.

That's when I heard a sound it sent shivers down my spine. It should have been comforting, a break in the Erie silence but it was not. The sound I heard was not an insect not a rustle of leaves in the towering trees. No, it was footsteps, footsteps that were getting closer and closer to me.

I wanted to run faster than a cheetah however my feet were rooted to the ground I was paralysed in fear. "Help" I squeaked. No sound left my mouth.

I was blinded, as the light shone on me squinting hard, I looked at the person standing in font of me. I gasped as tears filled my hazel eyes "Ariel?" I asked in disbelief no, it can not be I thought in bewilderment. Ariel, my sister, had died two years ago.

I was at lost for words. When I made out her nod in the faint torchlight I cried. I cried for all my misery in the past two years. I missed her so much. How could she still be alive? I remembered two years ago I was reading a thrilling book waiting for Ariel to come home when the police barged into my parents wooden cottage.

My mom gasped. The police meant only two things. Either you were arrested or something bad happened. Something really bad. I only remember the police gently trying to explain that she disappeared and was dead. Dead. Dead.

I clinged on to that tiny bit of hope that Ariel was still alive but soon over the months the spark of hope faded. Just like my memory of Ariel.

However none of that mattered now . It did not matter how Ariel was alive. Or how she found me. It just mattered that she was there, alive, and so I hugged her tighter than ever and loved her more than ever. With that the crickets started chirping and the owls hooted and the wind blew and Ariel and I laughed harder than ever happier than ever.

     -Naya

As the last cape of snow from the Winter melted, the spring sun rose slowly into the air, smiling at the new, spring, day. Devin pranced to her small garden and watched the tiny shoots' leaves. They swayed slightly in the spring wind, dancing madly as if happy to be out of the soil for many months. It felt great to breath in the spring air. Devin let out a shout of laughter as a mother and a baby squirrel pounced on a prey together before banging into each other. It was Spring time now.
As the air became hotter and thicker, more and more flower bloom and blossom into beauties. The forest beside Devin's house was now a painted forest of poppies, daisies, mimosas, sunflowers, agapanthuses, and many other flowers. The sun was now scorching and shining mercilessly everyday even though many children and adults laughed and splashed in pools, rivers, and beaches. It was Summer time now.
Amazingly, when it was Autumn, the weather chilled immediately. Devin and other kids wore cute sweaters or jackets to walk in forests. The leaves turned a shade of yellow, then orange, then red, before falling like a feather to the ground. Devin walked dreamily through the path of red leaves set before her, the leaves crunching beneath as if giggling to say that it was tickling. It was Autumn time now.
Soon, the weather began to a cursed cold. When Devin stepped out of the house, the freezing wind whipped across her face like knives or canes slapping her face. The cotton candy snow and beautiful snowflakes fell gently to the ground. The ground was now coated with white. Kids never seemed to find it cold. Kinds could skate on the frozen lakes, kids could make tall and handsome snowmen, kids could have snowball fights, and being pulled in a sled by their pet dogs, huskies. It was Winter time.
Round and round, the four seasons cycled like a bike going to in circles repeatedly. It was always a joy for kids.

Sakura's Life

Sakura was my best friend in the whole world. She was my dog. She played with me, stayed with me, she was the shelter in the storm for me, she was...my only living thing that was close to me.
I had a mean mother. A mean sister. No father. A mean brother. My mean mother, Jennifer, only cared about money. If I spent more than $10 for two months, she would scold me.
My mean sister, Jessica, only cared about her looks and is very protective of her makeup set. When I went into her room last time to ask if I could borrow her peach-pink lip bum as I had to go for a party later, she saw me going in and accused me of stealing. She was so angry that she moved away from the house with all her make up set and more money to buy more.
My brother, John, laughed at my clumsiness at lack of skills at soccer. Everyday, he would force me into a game of soccer. He would stand blocking his goal under the shade without any distance from the goalpost. And I would stand 10 meters from my own goalpost under the scorching sun. If I was about 20 meters close to his goalpost, he would attack me with cold fury or use his great judo skills to fight me.
My great dad, Jim, was dead. He was the only one apart from Sakura that I respected. Everyday after school, he would come fetch me with his big limo, and say, "Jessi, how was your day?" or "Jessi, shall we go to the park for lunch?". Everything was under control when one day, my mother found this high heel shoe online that cost a fortune. My mother wanted it badly but at that time, she still wasn't wealthy like my dad. She needed money, and she knew how. One afternoon, when I was heading downstairs for a bite, I saw my mother push my dad onto the floor. She gagged him tightly and chained him to the floor. She poured a red liquid into a cup and removed the gag from my dad. My dad clamped his mouth shut suddenly and made no sound although the gag was off. My mother squashed my dad's nose and my dad opened his mouth widely for a gasp of air. My mother dumped the red liquid into my dad's mouth. Instantly, he fell to the ground and never moved.
Sakura raced into the room and bit my mother's leg tight. I knew what to do know. I screamed and raced out of the house. I ran away from home and wondered around the big country of France. Sakura was always by my side and never stopped to sleep or to drag me down. She stayed with me and guarded me well.
Until one winter, when I was shivering under the Eiffel Tower in Paris when Sakura dropped onto the floor, trembling. I smiled as I knew how she like to act dead. But her eyes slowly closed and her chest didn't heave up and down anymore. For a second, I thought that my heart had stopped beating too. I shook Sakura violently but she did not wake. I screamed for help but the winter night just echoed my voice and no one came. I dug a deep whole and dropped Sakura carefully into it. On a rock nearby, I carved out,
Here lies Sakura, a nine months Shiba Innu, from 13 August 1976 to 24 May 1977, long live Sakura! Owner, Jessi.

~Ziqian~

When I stepped out, the merciless sun gazed upon me. Summer had just begun. I walked the two blocks to the pool.
The pool felt refreshing though not peaceful. Since it was summer, everyone thought of going to the pool. I groaned while splashing my legs in the water. I tried to get out of the water but the small waves hugged on to my legs. I thought of just staying in the water. The cool breeze greeted me. The laughter and chattering of kids in the pool made me uncomfortable as I like to be alone.

After a while, my fingers were turning into prunes so I got out of the water and got ready to leave. When I got home, it was quiet, awfully quiet. 'Mum must have gone out,' I thought to myself. I went into the kitchen and made iced lemonade. The ice clinked into the glass before melting as if the heat had crushed it. I went into my room and was shocked to see my brother, Jeffrey, who was sitting on my bed using his phone mindlessly. I walked across the slippery floor, got a book and went into the living room to read. My sweat slid down my neck like a snake slithering down a tree. I smiled, 'I can't wait for winter,' I thought to myself.

I blew my popsicle hard, hoping for it to not melt in the heat. But the frozen cream and fruits inside slowly melted and gathered in a pink puddle at my feet. I made no move to clear up the sticky, gooey mess. The Summer heat was horrible, I was sure I couldn't make it till Winter. "Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!" I screamed until my throat went dry and rough. "That felt good actually." I muttered to myself, smiling slightly. But after one minute, the sun was killing me joyfully again. I was as hot as a penguin in the dessert! I jumped into my swimsuit and tore downstairs to the condo swimming pool. "Oh, great." I wailed to myself. The pool was filled with people, all wanting to escape the heat. When I went closer, the strong scent of sweat and urine flooded my nose. The water wasn't crystal blue, but a bit yellow, green, and...grey. It had something yellow floating on the surface, probably oil or sweat or urine, plegh! I don't even want to think of that. The sun was no use either, smiling brightly at me as if I was too cold and needed more heat. Oh, how I wish for the Summer to be over!

It was a rainy day. The thunderstorm poured on and on. I waited for Mom at the foyer in school. It had already been pass ten minutes after dismissal. The rain went on and on. I thought that something might have happened to her. Every student and most of the teachers had gone home. I was still sitting there on the sad, crooked bench. The wind howled and wailed louder than ever. I became angry for Mom being so late. Within seconds, I found myself sloshing up the flooded road. My shoes were being soaked in the water. I suddenly caught sight of a familiar high heel I've always seen. I looked up quickly to see Mom at the opposite side of the road, picking herself a cup of tea at the hawker centre. I got even more furious. So Mom was late because she went to enjoy her drink and forgotten about me! I walked faster, not wanting to see Mom again, she was so mean! The clouds seemed to agree with me, growing darker and darker. I blinked back hot tears and walked on, trembling with rage and fury. I reached the bus stop near to school and saw-Mom! Mom was boarding Bus 35. I knew where that evil witch was going! She was going karaoke with her friends! She always sat Bus 35 to Karaoke King to hang out and while away the evening with her friends! So she went to Karaoke King so she forgot about me! I was so angry that I felt like breaking a metal ruler or going up a police daringly and punch him across his face with all my might. I raced along the lane. I was almost at the mama shop I usually bought snacks from when I saw a few woman chatting and doing some stretches lazily. Mom! So Mom also went to chat happily and do some little yoga with her friends so that she forgot to fetch me! Madness churned inside me. I hate Mom! I never want to speak to her again! I ran away, faster than lightning, as not only rain lashed at my face-tears streaked down my cheeks. How can Mom be so terrible?! I slowed down at the market which my neighbour Aunty Patricia ran. I suddenly saw Mom taking a basket and entering the market. I watched in horror as her phone rang but she didn't bother to pick it up and continue to pick the veggies she planned to buy. Mom was a busy boss who opened a big company that stretched across the world. She had many clients and answered all of them immediately if they called. So she would rather buy food and loose her job! And...she would rather go to the market and forget me! I was devastated and a crazy kind of anger rushed through me. What kind of person is Mom? Am I even her daughter?! I burst into salty tears and the rain seemed to understand me, it got heavier and heavier. I rushed home, sobbing my heart out. When I went home and got inside, my heart almost did go out. There was Mom, all dry. Except she was sitting in a photo. Beside, were white candles and with flowers. A ribbon with a straight cutting lay peacefully on the table. And suddenly, everything came to me. Mom was gone.
Mom had left the world of living.
Mom had passed on a few years ago, when I was five years old. The scene still flashed in my memory these days. I couldn't fall asleep and I was confused...and scared. Everything I owned was like lost...mixed up...I lived a life of confusion, sorrow, and lost.
The scene...me playing on my scooter. Me riding onto the rode by accident. Then...a horrified and fearful scream. Then...the most scary part...Mom running onto the road with her arms outstretched in front of a moving car. The car rolled on with a drunk driver inside and crashed into Mom. And suddenly, many people were crowding around. I was standing alone on the road, scared and lost.
I would never forget the evening, I vow to myself.

~Ziqian

Rosé only remember one thing: almost dying. She was 13 years old when she found herself in the quiet hospital after a dangerous and violent fight.
Well, who would think of a sweet, kind, polite girl like Rosé to fight? Especially with rough boys in her high school class.
Rosé is a girl who acts all girly and sweet on the outside. But you never know what's inside her dirty heart. Her brain tries to stop her, but as always, before Rosé knew it, her hand was flying to the popular boy Aaron Parker's face.
"What the...?" Parker always reacted and cursed and swear when Rosé did it. That was how sweet Rosé turned to that cold, tough girl who could survive in a dessert for many years.
Rosé was in Grade 1 when Parker came into her life. Parker was always acting cool and threatening the Grade 1 students. Rosé was watching closely of how Parker did his flying punches, judo skills, and kicks of taekwondo. When it was Rosé's turn to get blackmailed and bullied, she reacted too fast.
Rosé aimed a sharp kick at Parker's shins. A piercing shriek of pain escaped Parker's mouth. Parker's friends lunged forward and toppled onto Rosé.
Rosé blacked out and found herself in a quiet and neat hospital after that. When her eyes opened, a sharp blow was aimed at her stomach.
Rosé looked up coldly to see her sister, 21 year old Regina, to glare back in anger before, to Rosé's surprise, bursting into shocking tears.
"How...how...how could you...our sweet girl...so polite and obedient...go against boys?" She sobbed, tightly grasping Rosé's hand, tears leaked onto the bed.
"How can I not?!" Rosé shouted suddenly, her insides boiling with rage. "Everyday, it is Rosé good, Rosé be nice." Rosé muttered, echoing her worried mother's voice. "I don't want to be your good doll! I want to be who I am!"
Regina was so shocked that her tear stopped at once. Rosé sat up straight immediately and jumped to her feet before crumpling to the floor. Her ankle and shin gave a sharp agony. "You broke your leg." Regina said bitterly, biting her lips as she helped Rosé onto a new wheelchair.
Rosé rolled her eyes and pulled her arm away from Regina's.
