The "sociolinguistic context" refers to the linguistic features a population in a certain area has. For example, the languages spoken by the inhabitants of the region, the relationship between those languages or the attitude towards them.

Prurilingualism means being able to understand and communicate in more than two languages.

I live in Amorebieta and I work in Bilbo. Those two contexts are completely different. In Amorebieta most of the population understands and communicates in Basque while in Bilbao, although the vast majority can understand Basque, their mother tongue is Spanish and they don't feel Basque as a relevant language.

In consequence, taking into account that as it is stated in the curriculum, both Basque and Spanish (and a foreign language) must be developed, this reality implies the need of a deep examination and a well organized School Language Project which will provide the teachers with the appropriate tools for integrated language teaching.

Finally, I belive I need to know a lot more about our sociolinguistic context, theories and experiences on language teaching in multilingual societies and how to integrate and balance the use of three languages at school. These kowledges will lead me to a better understanding and the develpoment of strategies to get my students involved in their learning processes as well as to being able to contribute to my school's Language Project.

Sociolinguistic context is the study of how language serves and is shaped by the social nature of human beings. It examines the interplay of language and society.

Plurilingualism means that have the ability to understand and comunicate in more than two languages.

In my case, I live in Beasain. Two languages are spoken, Spanish and Basque. Basque, which is supposed to be the main language of the region, is understood and spoken by most people. However, unfortunately, Spanish is used more than Basque. Therefore, it is not weird to hear people speaking in Spanish more than in Basque, both young and old.

So, we have to take into account that in the place where we live the Spanish has a great influence in the Basque lands, because it is also in our sociolinguistic context.
In addition, apart from these two languages there are more languages and cultures that you come from other countries. This occur because of the immigration and we have to respect them too.

Given all this, it will be necessary for the school to be able to face this situation and seek a solution so that all students feel integrated.

Finally, as a prospective teacher, I think it would be necessary to identify the skills of the students. Apart from teaching them the official languages of where they live, it will be necessary to show them other languages, and more if these languages are spoken by their peers. For this, we will have to inform us of all this before we can teach them.

· Sociolinguistic context refers to the differences of the society we live and the language we speak. Those aspects are part of our identity.

· Plurilingualism refers to a place or community where more than two languages are spoken.

· What are the features of our sociolinguistic context? In the Basque Country we can find a special sociolinguistic context. Nowadays we have two “official” languages: Basque and Spanish. Not long ago, basque was in a really important risk, because someone thought that people who spoke basque were less than the Spanish speakers. Nowadays, we are in a better situation, but we still have a lot to do. I live in Oiartzun and fortunately the main language most people use to communicate is basque. We an learn in basque, go to the doctor, to do the shopping… using only basque, but it isn’t like that in other towns or cities.

· How are these concepts related to the School Language Project? Think that each sociolinguistic context need a different School Language Project which reflects our particular society. For example, in our case we have txo official languages, so have to educate and teach children taking into account that. They have to have similar skills in both languages. Apart of that, in nowadays society English also is a really important aspect, so this is also an other aspect to focus.

· Why do you need to deal with this type of content as a prospective teacher? How does it contribute to your professional profile and development? As a teacher, it is essential to know about our sociolinguistic context and the different situations about each children have respect the language: what is their mother or main language… In addition, taking into account that in our society English is more and more important, maybe in some years we will be speaking about plurilingualism, so we have to start thinking how to deal with this situation.

I am not sure of the following statement, because I don't know anything of sociolinguistic context but I think it is the descriptive study of society on the way language is used, and the effects of language use on society.

Plurilingualism is the capacity of individuals to use more than one language in social communication whatever their command of those languages. This set of skills constitutes the complex but unique competence, in social communication, to use different languages for different purposes with different levels of command.

Another plurilingualism definition: Plurilingualism is the knowledge of a number of languages and the co-existence of them in a given society.

I live in Vitoria-Gasteiz. Vitoria has around 244.634 residents. Most of the population speaks Spanish, so I can say that it is the main language of the city. Most young people know Basque because they learn it in the school, but the reality is that then in the street, with their friends etc they don't use Basque. I think that the main reasons are because they don't have the habit and because of the embarrassment they feel. In my opinion, they think that they don't speak well or properly because they compare themselves with other people for whom their mother tongue is Basque. Of course there are lots of differences, but it isn't bad.

School Language Project must have innovative teacher development to create brighter futures through language.

Like my partners, I think it is so important to know well our sociolinguistic context. In addition to this, I think it is really important too to dominate Spanish, Basque and English properly, because in the future schools are going to be trilingual.
Besides, we have to focus on how the linguistic features of interactions are affected by the social context in which the interaction takes place.

Sociolinguistics is the descriptive study of the effect of any and all aspects of society, in terms of sociolinguistic context is the area where different languages and cultures are influencing each other.

Plurilingualism is the ability to understand and speak in more than two different languages, having the strengh to change languages without any problem.

Refering to the features of my sociolinguistic context, the case of the Basque Country is cute different. In spit of "euskara" is the official language, we have another "official" one: Spanish. And despite that the most part of students study in the model D, lot of them speak in Spanish. For example in Sestao, the town where I am from, the 97% speaks in Spanish. In my case, fortunatly I speak in Basque with my parents and boyfriend, but I speak in Spanish with my friends. Is for that, we have to fostering the Basque language. An of course, nobody uses English as an everyday language.

Regarding to the School Language Project, I think that in the Basque Country we need a special one. I mean that taking into account that nowadays English in a language that we need, the School Language Project must to focus on it. Even so, we can´t forget Basque, because as I underlined before, the fostering of Basque is needed here.

At last, I would like to remark that this topic is really useful and necessary in my near future. In my words, this term is related to the study of how people use language in their everyday lives. Depending on the social mass, culture, and the different languages, the sociolinguistic context will be in one way or another.

On the other hand, Plurilingualism is a term used to discuss situations in which a person has communicative abilities in more than one language.

Features of my sociolinguistic context; In the Basque Country we can find a special sociolinguistic context. Nowadays we have two “official” languages: Basque and Spanish. Regarding to my personal sociolinguistic context, I live in Legazpi (Gipuzkoa) and has around 9000 inhabitants. Most of the population know how to speak in Basque, but in the last years the tendency is to speak in spanish. This aspect is being worked very hard from the schools and the city council, working with different projects to promote the use of Euskera.

At the same time, this aspect is related with the School language project. During the last days, I am informing myself at school about the school language project document and I am realizing the importance it has.

Sociolinguistic context: The sociolinguistic context studies the presence of languages which are used in a specific territory, region, town, village or neighborhood.

Plurilingualism: Plurilingualism is the capacity to use in different contexts two or more languages.

What are the features of our sociolinguistic context? In the Basque Autonomous Community (BAC) two languages are the official ones, but one of those languages (Basque) is less used and valuated than the other language (Castilian) by most of the people. Specifying a little bit, in Donostia the Castilian is more used than the Basque, but it seems that young people are making progressions in the use of Basque language. I believe is taking strength because of the decisive labor schools are doing in order to promote Basque.

How are these concepts related to the School Language Project? Schools have to adapt to the sociolinguistic context in order to develop as well as it is possible both official languages and a third one. And keeping in mind that in BAC basque language is not used in a lot of situations (for example in the street, shops, etc.), the School Language Project has to give more importance to basque, because without working Castilian at school, children are going to learn it with no problem. In case of the foreign language, Donosti for example is very touristic town, but its presence is very low, so the school language project has to encourage this language to.

Why do you need to deal with this type of content as a prospective teacher? How does it contribute to your professional profile and development? It is very important to know very well the environment you are going to work in because teachers have to adapt to that environment. For example in some little villages of Gipuzkoa, Basque is very used, so maybe the teacher does´t have to motivate children to speak Basque because is their usual language to communicate, and, on the contrary, in Altza for example (neighbourhood of Donostia) the teacher may motivate children to speak Basque at least at school, and the school language project may defend the activities organized out of school, which they have the aim of promote Basque, etc.
