Hi everyone! I’m Martin Li. My work centres on bridging the gap between 'knowing' and 'doing'. I’m fascinated by how adults acquire skills that actually stick, and I established The Gain Lab to help organisations transform learning into a measurable competitive advantage. Whilst I often spend my time at the front of the room facilitating, I am genuinely excited to be 'in the seats' for this course to sharpen my own diagnostic toolkit.

My view on the Learning Consultant: To me, a Learning Consultant is a blend of detective and architect. We aren’t simply 'order takers' who deliver a workshop just because a manager has requested one. Instead, we must interrogate the organisational ecosystem to uncover the root cause of a performance gap.

Hi there! I am Dr Caroline Dawson. Having worked as a teacher, journalist, and corporate trainer/facilitator/speaker and consultant for more than 20 years, I focus on making learning practical, relevant, and connected to real workplace challenges. A learning consultant helps organisations, departments and individuals figure out what people really need to learn and how learning should happen...not just through training sessions (which frankly the bulk of my income comes from). I now work based on the 70–20–10 approach, where most learning comes from on-the-job experience and learning from others, with training supporting the process.

Hi everyone, call me HJ.

With over 25 years across the energy sector, cloud engineering, and AI tech, I've held diverse roles in corporates before successfully setting up Asia offices for two large non-Asian organisations (both later acqui-hired by MNCs). Starting Feb 2026, I will re-frame my life on my own terms, prioritising family, pursuing personal interests, and co-owning a startup that blends energy with cloud engineering.

To me, a learning consultant is a practical partner who helps organisations identify real performance gaps and create on-the-job learning solutions that genuinely drive business results, far beyond just running more training sessions.

From my experience scaling teams and adopting new tech in fast-changing environments, I've seen how quickly skills date and how targeted, embedded learning can create real impact. The role means actively listening to business needs, diagnosing root causes, designing tailored interventions, and ensuring everything links to measurable outcomes and lasting change.

I'm excited about the GDWPL modules on uncovering organisational insights, driving change, and aligning strategies with skills frameworks. They’ll help me sharpen how I apply this mindset in practice.

Looking forward to learning from all of you, excited to hear your perspectives!
