The poker night shown in scene 3 reflects the differences in personalities of each character. This scene shows the dominance of Stanley, the forgiveness of stella and the sense of need from Blanche's character. Williams uses the words, "they are men at the peak of their physical manhood" already suggests that there will be male dominance. Within the poker game, Stanley seems to be the 'leader' and makes fun of the others. For example when Mitch comments on needing to go back to his ill mother, Stanley says "we'll fix you a sugar-tit" to him, which suggests that he is acting like a baby.
Stanley also shows that he is very blunt and straight to the point. This is shown when Blanche enters to greet the men while telling them not to stand, as she is use to this. However Stanley rudely tells her, "nobody's going to get up, so don't be worried". Stanley becomes jealous when Mitch tells him to "deal him out" as he continues to speak to Blanche and Stanley constantly calls him back into the game.

The poker night accentuates more on the dominance of Stanley's role in their relationship as it is the first time we see Stanley beats Stella. Furthermore, while Stella was still upset at Eunice's she immediately forgives Stanley and get back with the low-tone clarinet "moan" further accentuates Stanley's importance in Stella's life. Also the fact that Stella and Blanche was at Eunice's when Stella was upset also shows the unity of the community and how much they care and would stand up for each other during situations. It also shows how closely linked they are within the community.

The poker night in Scene 3 reflects the interactions and social standard of the characters. Firstly, the separation between men and women “Why don’t you women go up and sit with Eunice” reflects the difference between status and social standard towards men and women. Women are stereotypically found more quiet and gentle which does not fit the poker table therefore they have to stay away from it. Unlike men, who are portrayed as dominant and animalistic, poker night is another reflection of the brutal and animalistic behaviours of the men, this is emphasized by the interaction between the two genders, where men uses physical and brutal actions such as “Stanley gives aloud hack of his hand on her thigh” to proves his dominance/

The poker night in scene 3 has shown to be a regular event which is exclusive towards women. Only men get to play poker while Stella and Blanche don't even get ot be home. it shows the dominance of the men by them overruling the house for a game. Also juring poker the men drink and smoke a lot which does not show that a healthy lifestyle matters there. Stanley shows to be the boss in the poker game and therefor it is also being played at his house. His house his rules. This is because Stanley likes to have control over everything however he has shown to lose his coolness after drinking too much and abusing Stella by slapping her in the face. After this he shows deep regret and goes back to his upper neighbour where Stella and Blanche are hiding out in order to claim back Stella and his baby.

The contrast between the lifestyle of the men and the women in the play is expressed most vividly in the poker night in Scene 3. This is as the atmosphere created in the mens' poker game can be seen as an expression of the animalistic and pack tendency they have due to the hostile nature that they treat each other even though they are all friends. This can be an insight Williams intentions of portraying Stanley as an animalistic character but also the fact that his surroundings are also an expression of him. This is in contrast to Blanche and Stella's actions in the scene through the gossip that they share. This reveals an almost dependence on each other.

poker night shows the way that mean in a streetcar named desire (especially stanley) value being with their friends and having time for themselves away from women. the poker night also resembles the idea of male dominance as the women are not allowed to be in the apartment when they are playing poker. this shows that the men do not like discussing matter in the presence of women almost showing that they might have something to hide from them.
