The people on The Wilhelm Gustloff were told repeatedly to not take off their life jackets. The Wilhelm Gustloff was arranged to be a Transport Carrier to help Germans escape from The Red Army. The capacity of the ship was 1,456 passengers, but held up to ten thousand when it set sail. The length of the ship was 208.5 meters. The Wilhelm Gustloff used to be a KdF cruiser but was soon changed and became a hospital ship. Because there were so many people the living conditions were...not the best. Before the boats departure, they found that 22 lifeboats were missing. But they put life rafts on the boat instead. Once the Wilhelm Gustloff on January 30th, 1945 it was hit by three Russian torpedo's (S-13). Within one hour the great ship sunk taking with it over 9,000 people.

The Titanic set sail on April 10, 1912 The Titanic was called the Unsinkable Ship, but about five days into it's voyage it collided with an iceberg and sank. It was aid that the boat had too few life boats as well as The Wilhelm Gustloff. the Titanic was 882.5 feet in length, which is only 268.986 meters. More than 1,500 lives were lost when the ship sank. When the boat was hit it stayed above surface for about 2 and a half hours. At first people just thought that the ship was slightly damaged, so they chose not to fix it. The lifeboats left with far less than they were able to hold and the rule was women and children first.

This quote is able to tell people of what it was like on The Wilhelm Gustloff. The capacity was 1,456 people but held over 10,000 people. The space was very cramped and people had hardly any place to move. The people were told to under no circumstances take off their life jackets but some couldn't follow that order. They didn't follow that order because they wanted to be as comfortable as possible.
