This article titled, "Pet therapy: Do animals have a place in the therapy room?" talks about the different animals that lower the stress hormone in your body. Each paragraph is an excerpt from different stories where people find help through dogs, rabbits, cats, and even goats. One specific story is about one person who owned a farm and ran a class where someone could walk and talk specifically on a farm with these goats. He states he noticed a sudden calmness in his client when he began interacting with the goat, Charles. The rest of the article is full of stories about how just petting or being around an animal has helped someones stress level go down or fill them with happiness.

In this article titled, " Service Animals and Pet Therapy in Schools," they did research on the relationship between students, teachers, and the service pet. They said that the research found reduced violent gestures and improved overall behavior. They also saw that there was an increase in attention in class, motivation to do work, and overall just a positive outcome. This research took place on students living with disabilities. They found when a student with a disability is accompanied by a dog, they are less excluded from the rest of the students in school and they too had an increased daily social contact with all of their peers. Overall their stress anxiety decreased allowing students to be more productive in school and feel as if they are in a better environment.

In the article, "The Health and Mood-Boosting Benefits of Pets a passage states, " Pets, especially dogs and cats, can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, ease loneliness, encourage exercise and playfulness, and even improve your cardiovascular health." It goes further into depth on how animals can improve health in more ways than one. The article shared stories on how it showed benefits to people's health and even their physical health. Less stress could mean lower blood pressure, less risk of heart disease, and can even aid in weight loss. They even explained how they can help mentally by easing anxiety, helping with depression, and easing loneliness. I overall like this article because there is so much information on the benefits to you mentally, physically, and in many other ways.

I chose this article just to have some background information to back up why reducing stress by owning an animal is so important. The article, "Stress effects on the body," really just explains all the side effects it has on the body. Some include insomnia, nausea, high blood pressure, depression, headaches, weight gain, and heart disease. However, this article also shows every body system and what it affects. Some examples include the cardiovascular system and how blood pressure increases and higher the risk of heart disease and heart attack. It also affects the Gastrointestinal system causing bloating, stomach pain, and gut discomfort is more common. Overall I think this article is just important to add because it can show the side effects of stress and how important it is to manage.

The power behind owning a pet.

This article titled, "The power of pets," is just further in depth how it can benefit families, mental conditions, and health benefits. A sentence from the articles says, "“Is your goal to increase physical activity? Then you might benefit from owning a dog. You have to walk a dog several times a day and you’re going to increase physical activity. If your goal is reducing stress, sometimes watching fish swim can result in a feeling of calmness. So there’s no one type fits all.”" In order to take proper care for your dogs and go on a walk, you also end up doing physical activity yourself. A daily increase of physical activity is so beneficial to the body in so many ways. Dogs may also just help with loneliness as most breeds love being by their owner and looking to them for companionship and of course food!

In this article, " Service dogs," you can further see into the science on how they train these dogs, how smart they are, and overall how they can help their owner. A part of the article says, "Canine Companions paves the way in the service dog industry by studying the impact of service dogs on people with various disabilities and their families. By better understanding the needs of our clients and how a dog is most useful to them, we can raise, train and select service dogs that will support them best to lead more independent lives." A dog's main goal and purpose to their life is to be that companion needed and when they are trained they can be especially helpful even with detecting health challenges. Overall I may not use this article as much but it may be helpful to have some background on dogs behavior and intelligence.
