         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>When war started with Spain in April 1898, Theodore Roosevelt was serving as an assistant security of the Navy. He quit his job and decided to form a volunteer regiment </li><li>This regiment was called the Rough Riders. The consister of Western cowboys and Eastern Blue Bloods. </li><li>The Rough Riders were the troops the lead the flank on Kettle Hill and was able to capture it. San Juan Hill was taken shortly after Kettle Hill </li><li>Theodore Roosevelt only had a one weeks combat experience and one day of fighting</li><li>Recommended to receive the Medal of Honor but was later denied the Medal of Honor because of politics </li></ul><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>On May 1898, a fleet of Spanish ships docked on Santiago harbor after coming across the Atlantic to Spain </li><li>Soon after a superior fleet of American ships blocked the harbor </li><li>In June the United States army landed in Cuba and planned surprise land and sea attack on the spanish stronghold </li><li>They fought there way to the outer defenses of the stronghold and on July 1 General William Shafter ordered to attack the village of El Caney and San Juan Hill </li><li>Shafter hoped to have captured El Caney before attacking San Juan Hill but the 500 spanish troops put up a fight against the 8,000 american soldiers</li><li>When Lieutenant John Miley ordered them to the flank the Rough riders had to leave there horses behind because of the transportation difficulties. The Rough Riders the the flank on Kettle Hill</li><li>The Rough Riders and the 9th and 10th cavalry regiments took Kettle Hill and San Juan Hill was taken soon after</li></ul><div><br></div>]]></description>
