Interestingly, pattern makers can just be inspired by a garment in a book. When she looked at it, she thought ‘ this can be made zero wasted’. Therefore, zero waste designing really needs passion. So that designers can get inspiration from everyday life. 
Also, zero waste design can be very time consuming. A zero waste pattern cutting book can take 15 months to make. A zero waste men’s suit pattern can take up to 8 months to create. 
Zero waste is important to every parts of the clothing production line. Lots of fabric waste is produced in the production process. In the past, many designers have used animal fur to create more unusual clothes, and these materials do make the texture look better and more natural. But it has to be said that today's technology has created artificial furs/fibres that have largely restored and replaced those fabrics.

Whenever I making my garments, there is always some waste of fabrics(mostly small pieces)and usually do not know what to do with these fabrics, so I threw them away. It can also be very time consuming as fitting the pattern pieces like a puzzle take a lot of brain power and perseverance. 

In the industry a lot of manufactures that I know of don't do zero waste pattern cutting as it take a long time.
