There were many opportunities to ask questions and propose discussion topics. As a student I have grown in my inquiry skills through my improvement in becoming more involved in class by asking more questions and responding to my teacher's questions and discussion topics. Below is an example of a Schoology discussion post I wrote:

Lady Macbeth questions Macbeth’s commitment in a conversation; “What beast was ’t, then,/That made you break this enterprise to me?/When you durst do it, then you were a man;/And to be more than what you were, you would/Be so much more the man. Nor time nor place/Did then adhere, and yet you would make both./They have made themselves, and that their fitness/now/Does unmake you.I have given suck, and know/How tender ’tis to love the babe that milks me./I would, while it was smiling in my face,/Have plucked my nipple from his boneless gums/And dashed the brains out, had I so sworn as you/Have done to this“(I.vii.47-60). Macbeth tells his wife, Lady Macbeth, of his skepticism about their plan. Macbeth had first thought of overthrowing the king, but now, he is afraid of the events that will follow. Macbeth tells Lady Macbeth that he no longer desires to follow through with the plan. In comparison, Lady Macbeth speaks of Macbeth’s weak ambitions and goes on to tell Macbeth of her views. Lady Macbeth tells her husband through an analogy that even as she may love her child, she will remain committed to the plan and pluck her baby from her nipple and bash its head against the wall. Lady Macbeth encourages Macbeth to stay committed to their plan for the benefit of their power. Lady Macbeth’s desires are very different from Macbeth’s, she has chosen to stick with the plan without question. Whereas, Macbeth’s loyalty to the plan is corrupt, he questions the events that will follow and his ambitions are weak. By telling this to Macbeth, does Lady Macbeth convince him to stay loyal to their plan?

Through this post I was able to become involved in a classroom and even propose a question to keep the conversation going and allow other to become engaged.

Reading in English 2H , in my opinion, is the very back bone of the class. Not only does it improve our writing with new brilliant ideas and vocabulary, but it gives us new perspective on this mysterious world we live in. For example, reading Fahrenheit 451 gives us a perspective of a man who is lives a very ignorant and meaningless life.  Soon however, his eyes are opened through the reality of the world he lives in. Through this revelation, he broke free of the control of the government and set out to live a meaningful life. Besides fictional books such as Fahrenheit 451, we also read factual and genuine articles from the internet, feeding us information about past events that has occurred. For example, we read articles on the subject of the Birmingham bombing, giving us new insights on the catastrophic event. Last but not least however, we read Shakespeare's puzzling play, as his words and diction bewildered even the most dedicated of readers. Obviously we learned how to absorb the information given to us in a faster manner with constant reading, and more importantly, we learn to read books with different diction and use of words, like Shakespeare's work. As a class, it's quite easy to say we improved on many parts of our writing compared to the beginning of the year. Our grammar for example, has considerably improved since the start of the year. Along with that. More importantly, I think, is that our "matters" statement goes more in depth than before, showing critical thinking skills in our writings. Our concluding sentence wraps up our essays much cleaner and our intro paragraphs overall has a stronger "level 2" thesis. All of this is only a fracture of the improvement we went through. 

I believe all students can agree when I say writing has played a very active and, most of the time torturous, role in our year as English 2 honors student. From the classical and nerve wrecking time writes to the tedious and soul sapping "take home" essays, we , as writers, are undoubtedly pushed to our limits many times. It's pretty safe to say that many students were pushed to the brink of insanity. Nonetheless, we, as class of 2016, have survived the challenges given to us by the merciless English 2H teachers. We, as a class, have crawled to the ebony gates of oblivion, sprinted through the hell-fires of madness, stared into the empty, beckoning abyss, and most importantly survived by the skin of our teeth. The "P" in our schools ESLRs stands for "Preparation", preparation for college, and just life in the real world in general. Some of the most valuable skills I've learned in my life have come from school and especially this class. I have prepared for college by learning to collaborate and share ideas by doing so many group projects just like this Padlet. Everything we did in this class challenged us to dig deeper and push ourselves harder than we ever thought we could. Even when we had massive work loads we never gave up we just learned that we had to make better use of our time and persevere. Things like discussion boards and socratic seminars helped us learn to build off each others ideas and collaborate in groups and how to behave in a learning environment which is crucial in college. Also this class taught me skills and habits that will allow me to be successful in life and in whatever career I choose. I learned to never be afraid of any task no matter how much work it is, as long as your prepare and persevere you can accomplish anything. I also learned that it is important to work well with other people and to be open to new ideas and the importance of team work and collaboration. This class is meant to help prepare me for college courses like AP Lang, and life after which it has succeeded at and I am very grateful to my teachers and peers that made this possible.

Two words that represent an expectation that is rarely fulfilled, with me being a prime example. When I first entered this class, my procrastination was at an all time high. However, as the year went on, I was simply overloaded with too many assignments, thus leading me to do projects the night before versus the period before. Other habits have also improved, such as remaining positive (at times) and furthering my interaction with others through collaborative projects . Evidence of my decreasing procrastination can be found upon looking at my blog posts, which I know do a full day before the due date instead of mere hours. Positivity and collaborative skills both manifest themselves in this project, seeing as how I'm working on it with my friends and we've all remained positive enough to not give up on it.

Though critically thinking is always encouraged, it's absolutely necessary in English, a subject where this habit results in the ability to comprehend a text, analyze it, and craft a response to it. In addition to the cognitive process, critical thinking also involves actions; ideas serve no purpose if they aren't shared. Thus, an example of a project that involved critical thinking was a collaborative infographic that required us to analyze rhetorical strategies in an Animal Farm. Not only did we have to see the correlation between our current lesson (at the time) with the text and write a written response, we also had to present it in a visually appealing manner.
