Equally clearly, on the other hand, it should come as no surprise if a mental process, (second) language learning, is not successfully explicable by any theory which ignores linguistic and cognitive variables" (Freeman and Freeman, 131)

In the eyes of a MAT student, this theory can help to shape a classroom for English Language Learners. It can help to create and frame a place where students will work together and learn from one their cultures so that we help minimize and eliminate social distance that may otherwise stop a student from learning a language. It can help teachers to understand their students and what factors may be affecting their learning or progress with content and language acquisition. This theory is still limited and while it does cover social and psychological factors, it does not include cognitive factors. It should be used as a tool and not the only language theory that should be taught or used.
