Assignment 2
Name: de Chavez, Ira B.
Year and Section: 3rd Year, 3EDSST5A

1. In the aspect of religion how Hinduism is very vital in the belief of Indian people compare to our belief in our religion as Filipino?
A: Hinduism has a rich history and a tight relationship to the foundation of India itself. It can be said to have come to existence about the same time when Indian civilizations were founded. From the Vedic texts to Gautama's journey of reaching enlightenment that would breed another religion, which is Buddhism, Hinduism directly affected power relations in ancient Indian governments as people of power honored and respected its teachings when it comes to decision-making. Philippines, however, had the exact opposite. The Catholic form of worship, which the most dominant religion in the country, was forced to the native Filipinos during the Spanish regime. It was built on fear and abuse if the people refuse to give in to such faith. Although its influence is gradually disappearing today, Catholicism would still remain in Philippine history as a 300-year struggle for freedom.

2. How Confucius became popular in china?
A: During the time of Confucius, China was divided into a number of warring states. These states are constant conflicts due to their desire to conquer the other. And because of this, the teachings that Confucianism holds was deemed necessary for this situation to change. His teachings argued that order must be instilled not just in households, but in the political setup as well. Laws must be implemented to prevent people from doing criminal acts and punishments must be done to those who would disobey these laws. And by doing this, Confucius believed that this was the ideal way of maintaining order in the empires of China. He had political positions during his time, from being a buildings minister to chancellor of Lu. With the help of that, put his fame and recognition to good use by spreading his wisdom all throughout China, later becoming one of the greatest Philosophers to have ever lived.

In the aspect of religion how Hinduism is very vital in the belief of Indian people compare to our belief in our religion as Filipino?

Today, Hinduism is the third-largest religion behind Christianity and Islam. Hinduism also has its unique and not a single religion but a compilation of many traditions and philosophies. they worship a single deity, known as “Brahman,” but still recognize other gods and goddesses.

Hindus are free to believe what they like about God, life after death, and the creation of the world. They may worship their own God or Gods in whatever form they wish. Everyone was not force to worship one God, anyone can enjoy their own beliefs that is morally accepted and valued. In my own opinion, Hinduism is very important to those people who are having this belief, I manage to see and hear some important point in Hinduism that life composed only life and death we all need do good deeds and value everything that has life.

Nonetheless, the Philippines dominant religion is Catholic, wherein after the arrival and colonization of Spaniards, we are influenced and baptized as Christians who believes in one God. From different readings, there are some tragic situations that our ancestors have encountered, these are the manipulation of worshiping and it leads to imprisonment because the pre-Hispanic belief system of Filipinos consisted of a pantheon of gods, spirits, creatures, and men that guarded the streams, fields, trees, mountains, forests, and houses. Bathala, who created earth and man, was superior to these other gods and spirits. But nowadays, we are one of religious countries that has massive of Christians and other small sects.

2. How Confucius became popular in china?

Confucianism is a philosophy developed in 6th-century BCE China, which is considered by some a secular-humanist belief system, by some a religion, and by others a social code. the fundamental principles of Confucianism began before his birth, during the Zhou Dynasty. The philosophy is based on the belief that human beings are essentially good, that they engage in immoral behavior through lack of a strong moral standard, and that adherence to an ethical code, and rituals which encourage it, enabled one to live a productive and tranquil life of peace which would translate to a strong, ethical, and prosperous state.

Clearly Confucianism is still highly relevant in today's China and should be taken into account when conducting market research in China. Its golden rule was, “Do not do to others what you do not want done to yourself.”

Hinduism believe that their faith is timeless and has always been existed so they have no creator but rather it is a combination of various beliefs, it has profoundly influenced the culture and way of life of Indian people. Aside from reincarnation and karma they also believe in caste, Indian where divided in hierarchical structure called Caste System, each caste has its own set of principles, laws and dietary belief. Hinduism also believes in various gods that are viewed as embodiments of one unity, it was said that universal and natural aspects are related to these deities. Hence in Philippines, Catholicism was introduce by spaniard to colonize us, as of today 85% of Philippine population believes in Catholic faith. Religion played a predominant role in Filipino culture, but unlike hinduism Catholic believes in only One God.

Bautista, Drigo P.
3EDSST5A

1. In the aspect of religion how Hinduism is very vital in the belief of Indian people compare to our belief in our religion as Filipino?

Answer: Hinduism is the third-largest religion behind Christianity and Islam. Roughly 95 percent of the world’s Hindus live in India. Because the religion has no specific founder, it’s difficult to trace its origins and history. Hinduism is a fusion of various beliefs. This is very vital for every Indian people because Hinduism embraces many religious ideas. For this reason, it’s sometimes referred to as a way of life or a family of religions, as opposed to a single, organized religion. Indian people are united as one, even though they have one god but still recognize other gods and goddesses. They are respect and accepting many traditions and philosophies which one of their best attribute. However, regarding our beliefs as Filipino we also have different religions, teachings, cultures and traditions but unfortunately it brings division, disagreement and dispute to all Filipinos. It seems that we are religious country and it is our identity to express our beliefs to other people, to share our culture and way of life but I can see that there is no unity when it comes to accepting the beliefs of other people in our lives. Unlike in Indian people they are oppose to a single religion, their mindset is they need to accept various beliefs to honor other people and their culture.

2. How Confucius became popular in china?

Answer: Confucius' teachings became the state philosophy of China during the Han Dynasty. His teachings were the basis of the government civil service exams. The government liked Confucianism because it taught to respect authority and that a strong central government was important. Confucianism is a philosophy based on mutual respect and kindness toward others. It was developed to bring peace and stability in society. It was founded before the birth of Confucius, developed through his later life and was made popular soon after, during the Han Dynasty. Confucianism is technically not a religion. But it does share the Christian approach of loving others. In fact, that is the foundation of the philosophy. Confucianism is based entirely on kindness, mutual respect and an appreciation for character virtues. It is founded on the belief that society can flourish only when people learn to interact positively with each other.

Hinduism is a religion with various Gods and Goddesses. Their belief are influenced or absorb because of the long time they practice it. According to Hinduism, three Gods rule the world. Brahma: the creator; Vishnu: the preserver and Shiva: the destroyer. Lord Vishnu did his job of preserving the world by incarnating. It is religion that originated in India and is still practiced by most of its inhabitants, as well as by those whose families have migrated from India to and other parts of the world. The Persians in the 5th century BC called the Hindus by that name, identifying them as the people of the land of the Indus. The Hindus define their community as “those who believe in the Vedas” or “those who follow the way (dharma) of the four classes (varnas) and stages of life (ashramas).” While in the other hand, religion of the Philippines is very vital in the practices, culture and beliefs of every Filipino’s. Since were colonized by Spaniards in all most 333 years the Christianity that they teach are still abundant and practices every single day.

2. Since Confucius believed that every person had there place in society. He enforced people through his teaching, and turned Ancient China into a structured society. Confucianism impacted Chinese in many ways and still practice and kept until the end of Ancient Chinese era. They say Confucianism did society have stable economy and perfect society because of he’s teaching that use and become popular for many years. Confucius create schools and made another impact on society. The boys educated in the way of Confucianism and also taught them Calligraphy so many of the boys went on to becoming scholars, while the woman subordinate throughout the religion. This re-affirmed the claim that woman were not as powerful or wise as men. This impacted how woman were viewed as in society causing many woman try and claim social status with gruesome practices such as Foot-Binding.

In the aspect of religion how Hinduism is very vital in the belief of Indian people compare to our belief in our religion as Filipino?
Hinduism plays a vital role in Indian culture for it serves a unifying element during the early civilization. We cannot deny it's usefulness in Indian emperors to maintain and justify their power. Considering that it is easy for a nation to control if it believed in the same gods. Apart from that, Hinduism imposed a social hierarchy structure called caste system which maintained during the rise of Indian empires. According to Khan Academy, the categorization of caste system was based on their past life. Where as the lower caste was born that way because they possibly committed bad deeds during their previous life. The rituals of this religion was highly practiced by brahmins or priest and eventually spread throughout the India when two epic Mahabharata and the Ramayana poems we're written. The lower caste have access on it and able to fulfill their caste duties in exchange of personal salvation. The society become more stabilize and became centralized. As a result, social norms and customs integrated fully into daily life of many Indian people as well as those people have migrated from India to other parts of the world. In today's time, hinduism is very popular in India that rituals and traditions are being celebrated through festives. As compared to our religion, it plays the same role of providing social stability, binding community and morals in invidividual. Similar to Hinduism, it's diverse culture can be seen through various festivals and national celebration in the Philippines. Moreover, the image and sculptures are being worshipped by many Filipinos. and moral values are closely similar to each other. It's teachings and moral values are closely similar to each other. Belief that includes, forgiveness, self-control, prayer and meditation. In today's time we seen the importance of religion not just in our society as a whole but on a day-to-day basis of each people. The ritual, traditions and values we are celebrating up to this time are owe much to the past. Religion, then, is one of the most important institution that cultivates Indian and Philippine history.

2. How Confucius became popular in China?
Based on the video, Confucius became popular known in his own philosophy-Confucianism. He taught it to others as he traveled thoroughout China. He created this philosophy due to frustration from different empires clashing and killing each other. As the Qin dynasty gained it's victory, they adopted legalism and banned all confucian works. However due to many landlords Qin losses it's control over the entire empire. Then later when Han dynasty took over, they encouraged greater freedom of speech by declaring Confucianism as the state philosophy. Confunism teachings shows great importance of submitting in central government as a result, his teachings were the basis for civil service exams and remained as one of the valuable part of Chinese culture.

And I think that is one of the reason why it is vital in the belief of Indian people compare to the belief of our region which is slowly dying or not given importance at all, because some Filipino’s put it into action but not truly in their heart. To people raised in other faiths, Hinduism may seem very complex, but the core beliefs of Hinduism are actually quite simple to understand. They pursue knowledge of Truth and Reality, they strive for moral order and right action and they promote tolerance.Hinduism is not an organized religion and has no single, systematic approach to teaching its value system. Nor do Hindus have a simple set of rules to follow like the Ten Commandments. Local, regional, caste, and community-driven practices influence the interpretation and practice of beliefs throughout the Hindu world. Most early Filipinos believed in worshiping different gods, creatures, and spirits. They fill them through various practices, sacrifices, and rituals. Hinduism makes a difference compare to the belief of the Filipinos. The Indian people strongly uphold their religious belief up to shaping their culture and daily lives through their holy scriptures. How Confucius become popular in China?

Confucius' family was part of a growing middle class of people in China called "shi." They weren't part of the nobility, but were considered above the common peasants. This gave him a different outlook on life than the majority of people. He thought that people should be promoted and rewarded based on their talents, not on what family they were born into. Confucius developed his own philosophy which he taught to others. Today, his philosophy is known as Confucianism. His ideas didn't become popular until years after his death when they became the basic philosophy of the Chinese culture for over two thousand years. He quit his government job at the age of 51. He was disappointed that the leaders were not following his teachings. He then traveled throughout China for many years teaching his philosophy. Some of his followers wrote down his ideas in a book that would later be called The Analects of Confucius. He become popular to China because his teachings became the state philosophy of China during the Han Dynasty. His teachings were the basis of the government civil service exams. The government liked Confucianism because it taught to respect authority and that a strong central government was important. Confucius' teachings remained an important part of Chinese culture and government up until the 20th century.
