North america). This was issued by King George III in 1763 after the British had won the seven years war. Even though the Royal Proclamation allows the british to settle in North America, it states that the land is and will continue to be the land of the indigenous peoples.

The Indian act was discriminatory towards Indigenous peoples, indigenous women especially. Bill C-31 also repealed section 12(1)(b) of the Indian Act, which stated that: “a woman who married a person who is not an Indian… [is] not entitled to be registered.” (thecanadianencyclopedia)
Pros: Removed discriminatory parts of the Indian Act and granted people that should have Indian Status their status.
