While reading the chapters I really enjoyed chapter nine because I think that using drama as well as dance to handle different conflicts as well as get students creativity flowing is very important. The main point of this chapter is all about learning about your students as well as how to read them and figuring out what they respond to best. Role playing is very important when it comes to a class getting along as best as possible. It is your job as the teacher to read the class and see what activity will be best to help fix the class dynamic.

Summary /Take Away Points

The experiences presented in the text were very eye opening. The one experience that I liked the most was excluding exclusivity. That is because I never had too many friends in school. I had my one or two best friends and that was it. I also had to deal with bullying as well as being left out of different games students would play. I know many children struggle with this and after reading this section I was happy to know that using drama in the classroom has been able to improve these situations. I think that this idea works so well is because everyone has a chance to get to know one another on a very personal level, to see who they are as an actual person before judging them without getting to know who they are

New Concepts

A new concept that I learned was how to incorporate drama into classrooms to help resolve conflict. I had never thought of doing anything like that to help students work out their problems. Using drama to deal with different situations gives students a safe space to say what they feel is right without getting judged by others. I think that this is a great concept that I will be able to incorporate into my classroom.

Something that I do still wonder about is if it actually works. According to the book it does, however, I would like to see this concept in action. I would love when I do become a teacher or even a student teacher use this concept in the classroom and see how well the students react to it.

Some resources that this chapter made me think of is bringing in a drama teacher. I know that today some schools do not offer a drama class. I think that making sure that children have the opportunity to explore drama is something that is fantastic and who better to give them this opportunity than a drama teacher. Another idea that I think would be great is bringing in props to get the students excited about acting out different situations.
