The use of promoting to not drink and drive has been used in Red Dog written by Louis de Berniérs. This is shown when John dies while riding a motorcycle after he had a few drinks. The book shows that it is not safe to drink and drive as there are consequences such as John passing. The reader is positioned to believe that drinking and driving under the influence of alcohol is the wrong thing to do as John did this and died. It is represented through many ways; "John had a few beers, but thought he wasn't too drunk to drive". This shows that he drove while under the influence of alcohol when he shouldn't have. This would be considered as a children's book as it is showing that drinking and driving is the wrong thing to do as there are consequences to face as extreme as death. Therefore, drink driving is represented in Red Dog, written by Louis de Berniérs, through the use of John's thoughts thinking that he isn't too drunk to drive and it makes the reader feel as if it is a children's book as it is promoting to not drink and drive.

Drink driving is a serious issue that is represented in the book Red Dog by Louis de Bernières. In chapter 5, Red Dog witnesses a fatal car accident caused by a drunk driver who runs over his friend John. This scene shows the devastating consequences of drink driving and how it affects not only the victims but also their loved ones and even animals. Therefore, drink driving is portrayed as a dangerous and irresponsible behaviour that has no place in society.
