She uses slang to describe almost everything.

She likes to hint/mention aspects of the book that will come in later. Ex. On the first page she talked about how dope is bad and a couple pages later she talked about how her dad's life was ruined by dope.

I thought that the amount of insults about people's past was kind of shocking considering how mean it is. It was also kind of strange that all of them care so much about how they look. Like the care WAAAAAAYYYY to much.

Normally it has a short section that doesn't really lead to anything but shows a lot about Raspberry. It normally talks about how money affects Raspberry life so much. For example, on chapter 17 she talks about how rich Zora is and it kind of seems like she is jealous.

Mai is insecure about being Korean. 
Raspberry is insecure about being poor. 
Zora is insecure about her looks. 
Sato is insecure about being "chubby"

All of the characters hate this about themselves because they think that it is weird, but throughout the story the author shows how this makes them unique and interesting. The author does this by showing other people who are in similar situations such as Odd Job who prove that the insecurity makes them special.

They all have there oddities for such things as pass trauma and more. Personally I think the author adds this because she want's people to be able to relate to the charachter and to show how that even with problems your able to fight back and push through so maybe the theme that is no matter your insecuritys you can get through them and break free of your insecuritys and problems

Every time she touches money she gets comforted. This might be because she subconsciously understands that her troubles come from lack of money.

Her highlighting these problems makes the readers think how are the characters going to overcome this hurdle. then she gives you more information telling you more about the problem and maybe why that is a problem. Furthermore she then gets us close to the answer giving us all the information we need and for us to decipher it in are own way while she sets down the setting stones slowly.

A example of this is when she gave us insight on how they used to live on the streets and how that led to raspberrys being money hungry never wanting to go through that again problem.
