She was constantly tired, growing thin and had a swollen belly. An MRI confirmed the diagnosis but Marina was put on medication to manage the disease until she was old enough for a transplant </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Definition:&nbsp;<br>Kidndg disorder in which the space between the kidney tubles become swallon / inflamed,causing problems with kidney function&nbsp;<br><br>Group 5<br>Complications:<br>Acute Kindey Injury.<br>Incomplete Renal Recovery with residual Chronic Kidney Disease are the major complications of Acute Interstitial Nephritis.<br><br>Prevelance:<br>Found to occur in 15-27% of patients in whom kidney biopsy is performed for AKI.<br>Increased prevelance in elderly<br>Drugs responsible for 60-70% of cases.<br>DI-AIN continues to rise likely due to use of antibiotic use, NSAIDs and other drugs.<br><br>Story:<br>Gary was suffering from chest infection and was experiencing poor sleep and headaches which were treated with ibuprofen. He was later told his ibuprofen had caused his kidney problems.<br>He had an x Ray for his chest problems and blood tests which then identified his actue IN. He was shocked due to having no symptoms indicative of CKD but luckily got given the all clear a few months later <br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Pyelonephritis:Definition: A infection of the kidney usually caused by cystitis (a type of UTI). The bacteria can travel in the blood to one of both kidneys. Complications:-	If not treated can result in permanent kidney damage -	In rare cases can cause sepsis -	Can result in recurrent kidney scarring-	Increased risk of delivering babies with a low birth weight if contracted during pregnancy -	Also more likely to have recurrent kidney infectionsPrevalence:-	1 in 830 people in UK experience kidney infection each year, females 6x more likely than men-	120-130 cases annually per 100,000 women and 30-40 cases per 100,000 men (more common in women)-	More prevalent in Asian populations Service user story:Common symptoms experienced:-	Pain in the back,flank or belly-	Fever-	Chills-	Nausea-	Vomiting-	Haematuria-	Dysuria-	Hypotension Stories for patient forum:-	No warning prior to infection first signs are pain in kidney and severe shaking and shivering-	Commonly admitted to hospital to receive IV antibiotics then treated with oral antibiotics at home-	Patients would like to know whether there is any early signs to identify to prevent admission to hospital</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Definition </strong><br>Group of symptoms which causes kidneys to leak large amounts of protein into the urine. Indicates kidneys are not working properly. Children with the nephrotic syndrome tend to go through phases of remission and relapse but these begin to lose frequency as they grow older -&gt; eventually "growing out of it" by late teens. (Chelsea and Westminster Hospital Trust, 2022)<br><br><strong>Complications </strong><br>- proteinuria<br>- hypoalbuminemia<br>- oedemas<br>- hyperlipidaemia<br>- infections<br>- blood clots<br>- poor nutrition - loss of appetite<br>Can be controlled with steroid medication.<br>(NIDDK, 2020), (NHS, 2019) <br><br><strong>Prevalence <br></strong>Can affect people of any age, although usually first diagnosed in children aged 2 - 5 years old. Affects more boys than girls. 1 in every 50 000 children are diagnosed with Nephrotic syndrome each year. More common in families with a history of allergies or Asian background, unclear why.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Definition:<br>-kidney damage caused by diabetes<br>-symptoms include: albuminuria, worsening blood pressure control, diabetic glomerular lesions, low eGFR, swelling, increased need to urinate, persistent itching, fatigue, loss of appetite<br><br>Complications:<br>- fluid retention- oedema<br>-hyperkalemia<br>-cardiovascular disease- increased risk of stroke<br>-diabetic retinopathy<br>-anaemia<br>-problems related to damaged nerves and blood vessels e. g. foot sores<br>-bone and minerals disorders<br>-may eventually lead to the end stage kidney disease&nbsp;<br><br>Prevalence:<br>1 in 5 people with diabetes will develop nephropathy<br><br>Patient’s story:<br>A 70 years old man suffered from chronic neuropathic pain in his feet caused by diabetic nephrophaty. He was a participant of the trial by Kansas University in US that included the use of the device called a spinal cord stimulator which helped him to improve his quality of life. It was a surgically implanted device that disrupts the pain signals to the brain so that the patient could live pain-free.<br><br><br></div>]]></description>
