I like that the Book gives ideas of how to work smarter, not harder. It talks about using technology wisely but to have a balance in life as well. It talked about doing assignments with a purpose not just for the sake of doing them and also spoke about "cheating" as a teacher. Like maybe not grading all of the assignments or using the computer for testing so it does the grading for you. As most teachers do, I really like my job but I don't want it to consume me. I still have a family and other things going on in life that also need my attention. It was refreshing to read other teachers view on this and that it's ok to have a life outside of the classroom. It's normal and healthy! This book has also given me ideas to try new things in the classroom and encourages the readers to not give up if any of the ideas fail. Maybe it just needs a little tweaking or maybe it will lead to another idea that does work. It's trial and error at times with technology and it's also learning from others and sharing with others the successes and fails!

-What's a new way you can be creative in class and enhance your students excitement?

For me, using new forms of technology can enhance my student's excitement for Health/PE. I do use technology but incorporating new things will not only keep it fresh for me (since I teach the same thing 6 periods a day) but will hopefully generate excitement within my students. I want them to be excited about their health and have the knowledge of how to live a long and healthy life. This is important information as it can affect their quality and quantity of life and will have a profound impact on their future. I want them to form healthy habits now so that it doesn't take a major illness or medical emergency for them to realize they need to take their health seriously. We only get one life and we need to do our best to take care of ourselves but we need the knowledge and determination to do so. Hopefully with the apps and fitness watches, etc. that we have, we can help our students get excited about eating nutritious foods and getting the proper physical activity that they need for a healthy lifestyle.

Q1: How will this PD inform your instruction and impact your students in the future?
There is a section in the book about ways to foster relationships with students. Going from teaching high school where I only had 90 students a semester, to teaching elementary where I have 500 students at once has been a difficult adjustment. I am struggling to learn names, but this section gave me some good ideas about ways to foster relationships aside from using names. I am hoping that by using some of these techniques, I can not only build better relationships with the students/ learn names, but I can create a better classroom culture.

Q2: What's a new way you can be creative in class and enhance your students excitement?
Chapter 20 talks about "Acting like a child". I agree that is important to remember what it was like to have a childlike attitude in order to make decisions for out students. I think it's also exciting to the kids to see their teacher acting like one of them, whether it's playing the games with them, sitting on the carpet with them, making secret handshakes, etc.

Q3: What has had real meaning?
I like that the authors of this book have made everything so relatable. It makes their ideas seem more realistic to be able to connect some of their stories with things I've seen or experienced. I also like that all of their ideas make things better for the kids, but also for the teachers.

Being able to have a variety of instruction ways is key to keeping the class enthused and energized to learn. Students will be able to learn in a variety of ways besides just listening to someone lecture and take notes. The ipad can really help any type of learner through a variety of resources such as imaging, videos, information, drawing etc. I feel if I can differentiate and give my students a variety of ways to learn the material that will enhance the overall classroom environment.

I am branching out with my use of technology in the classroom and not being afraid to take some risks. I still have a ways to go with this but I'm proud of the fact that I am trying new things. New things I've tried are webquests and the use of Padlet for class discussions. Both have worked well and I'm excited to try QR codes at some point and many other techie ways to help enhance learning in my classroom!

Physical education like other contact sports increase student potential risk of concussions. Students can fall, collide with each other, be hit with thrown objects or even run into fixed objects. Being aware of potential hazards, managing behavior and rules can minimize these risk. I have learned how to recognize incidents and symptoms that might indicate concussions and the role play to make sure students get the attention that is needed.

The major benefit for me has been the flexibility it has given me. Although that can be a negative if you tend to be a procrastinator. Another benefit is the hands on opportunities which helps in maximizing understanding. In addition, being able to choose PD's that are specific to my content gives more meaning and relevance to the information being learned.

Learning that ignoring concussion or the potential of a concussion can lead to life threatening injuries that could lead to serious consequences in the life of students if not managed or responded to properly.
