I found the discussion of translanguaging interesting, as it challenges the idea of languages as separate systems and instead emphasizes their fluid overlap. This perspective positions students’ language practices as assets, allowing them to draw on their full repertoires to make meaning. I also appreciated the point that inclusive views of language can strengthen formative assessment by giving teachers a clearer understanding of what students know. Overall, translanguaging disrupts rigid notions of “appropriate” language and creates more equitable opportunities for bilingual and multilingual learners.

I found the topic of translanguaging very interesting! It interests me because I work in a dual immersion school and often times I find myself wanting to dive deeper into translanguaging and my students abilities and language. I like the discussion that Catherine Lemmi provided in that language has variety and that it can allow for more space for students to fill in with their own language experiences and backgrounds. I also had my attention peaked when she talked about "undoing appropriate" and how that relates to language. There is an element of social justice in what she was speaking about and I relate it to this topic of how appropriate language is applied differently and how it often is racial. Finally, I found that "linguistically deficient" students are typically identified as being black or brown students which makes me wonder even more about this topic. Thank you for sharing Catherine Lemmi!
