ปัญหาเรื่องการเรียนรู้ภาษาอังกฤษของชาวเอเชียและชาวไทยตั้งแต่วัยเด็ก ส่วนใหญ่เกิดจากการปลูกฝังค่านิยมการเรียนการสอนในสมัยก่อนจะเน้นการพูดภาษาอังกฤษให้ถูกหลักไวยากรณ์ หรือเน้นสำเนียงการออกเสียงให้มีความเหมือนเจ้าของภาษามากที่สุด ถ้าผู้เรียนสามารถทำได้ สังคมจะให้ความยอมรับว่าเป็นผู้มีความสามารถทางด้านการใช้ภาษาอังกฤษได้อย่างถูกต้อง เมื่อผู้เรียนพูดผิดหลักไวยากรณ์ หรือออกเสียงไม่ถูกต้อง มักจะโดนผู้สอนตำหนิในทันที จึงทำให้ผู้เรียนส่วนใหญ่โดยเฉพาะในวัยเด็กไม่กล้าที่จะพูดสื่อสารหรือโต้ตอบเป็นภาษาอังกฤษ เพราะเมื่อถูกตำหนิหรือทักท้วงก็จะเกิดอาการอายทำให้ไม่กล้าที่จะใช้ภาษาอังกฤษในการสื่อสาร และส่งผลทำให้เด็กเกิดการต่อต้านในการเรียนรู้ ให้เด็กเกลียดวิชาภาษาอังกฤษไปเลย

ซึ่งสำหรับเด็กที่มีสมาธิสั้น ด้วยพฤติกรรมของโรคที่เด็กเป็นมักจะไม่ค่อยกล้าแสดงออกอยู่ เมื่อเห็นปัญหาตามข้างต้นที่เพื่อนร่วมชั้นเรียนเจอก็จะทำให้เด็กไม่กล้ามากกว่าเด็กปกติ แม้ว่าเด็กที่มีสมาธิสั้น บางรายจะได้รับการบำบัดด้วยกิจกรรม และการรับประทานยาก็ตาม ก็จะเกิดอาการอายทำให้ไม่กล้าที่จะใช้ภาษาอังกฤษในการสื่อสารเช่นเดียวกับเด็กทั่วไป และส่งผลทำให้เด็กเกิดการต่อต้านในการเรียนรู้ มากกว่าเด็กปกติทั่วไป

Why do I interest to conduct this biographical research about Kṛpāśaraṇa Mahāthērō?

Kṛpāśaraṇa Mahāthērō was one of the pioneer Buddhist monks who dedicated his life to, promoting education, social welfare, propagating Buddhism, and protecting historical archeological sites in undivided India.
Despite the term, “engaged Buddhism” was coined by Babasaheb Ambedkar and Thich Nahn Hanh in the late 50s to 60s, philanthropist activities of Kṛpāśaraṇa Mahāthērō revealed that he was a pioneer Buddhist social worker in the modern period.
There is not much work about Kṛpāśaraṇa Mahāthērō. Therefore, researchers in the field of religious studies need to pay much attention to learning the forgotten tales and legacies of Kṛpāśaraṇa Mahāthērō.
According to the records, we came to know Kṛpāśaraṇa Mahāthērō contributed to establishing more than 15 educational institutions in undivided India (present-day India & Bangladesh), 30 plus Buddhist institutions, and established an active organization named “Dharmankhur Bouddho Sabha”.
During the colonial period, citizens in undivided India did not get enough privilege to study, especially in rural and remote areas of Chattogram, which were far behind secular education. Kṛpāśaraṇa Mahāthērō’s progressive thought and connection with contemporary aristocratic and educated society, helped to establish several educational institutions in Chattogram (present-day Bangladesh).
It is worth noting that Kṛpāśaraṇa Mahāthērō proposed to Kolkata University to initiate “Indic Study or Indology” which subsequently sub-dived into many departments - one of their branch department is the Buddhist Studies Program. In modern times, Kolkata University was the first secular university that initiate Buddhist Studies in the last century. Inspired by Kolkata University, other Indian universities started this discipline. The revolution of Buddhist Studies went so far and across the continent, consequently, this discipline started in Europe and USA as well.

เนื่องด้วยสถานการณ์การแพร่ระบาดของโรคติดเชื้อไวรัสโคโรนา 2019 (COVID-19) ได้ส่งผลกระทบต่อประชากร โลกเป็นวงกว้าง โดยมีจำนวนผู้ป่วยติดเชื้อและผู้เสียชีวิตเพิ่มขึ้นเป็นจำนวนมากในระยะเวลาอันรวดเร็ว องค์การ อนามัยโลกจึงได้ประกาศให้โรคติดเชื้อไวรัสโคโรนา 2019 เป็นโรคระบาดใหญ่ (Pandemic) ในวันที่ 11 มีนาคม พุทธศักราช 2563 (WHO, 2020, ย่อหน้า 17) อีกทั้งการแพร่ระบาดของเชื้อไวรัสโคโรนายังทำให้พฤติกรรมมนุษย์ พฤติกรรมการบริโภคและการบริการเกิดการเปลี่ยนแปลงที่สำคัญในหลายๆ ด้าน ส่งผลให้ในหลายภาคส่วนเกิดผล กระทบ เช่น เศรษฐกิจ สังคม การท่องเที่ยว เทคโนโลยี และการศึกษา นอกจากนี้ยังส่งผลให้สถานศึกษาไม่ สามารถจัดการเรียนการสอนได้ตามปกติ

สถานศึกษาเป็นสถานที่ที่มีนักเรียนอยู่รวมกันจำนวนมาก จึงมีความเสี่ยงสูงที่อาจจะมีการแพร่ระบาด ของเชื้อไวรัสโคโรนา 2019 (COVID-19) สถานศึกษาต่าง ๆ จำเป็นต้องปรับเปลี่ยนวิธีการจัดการเรียนรู้อย่างเร่งด่วนในการ พัฒนาการเรียนการสอนของครูมาเป็นแบบออนไลน์เพื่อลดการเผชิญหน้ากัน โดยให้มีการจัดการเรียนรู้แบบ ออนไลน์100% โดยงดเดินทางมาเรียน งดการรวมกลุ่มกันเป็นจำนวนมาก งดกิจกรรมหลายๆกิจกรรมที่จัดเพื่อ พัฒนาผู้เรียนมาเป็นแบบออนไลน์

ในการเรียนในรูปแบบออนไลน์เป็นการเรียนการสอนในรูปแบบใหม่ ซึ่งนักเรียนและครูผู้สอนต้องปรับตัวสำหรับการเรียนการสอนออนไลน์ โดยในการเรียนการสอนในรูปแบบออนไลน์ทำให้เกิดปัญหา เช่น ไม่สนใจในเนื้อหา เบี่ยงเบนความสนใจไปทำอย่างอื่น เป็นต้น

3. A Large Number of Students in the Classroom:

By a Large number of students in the classroom’s teachers faced a lot of problems in teaching the English language.

A large number of students in class produce a lot of stress because teaching a large number of students the teachers have to do more effort and hardworking.

4. Wrong Syllabus:

The syllabus is a kind of content that what to teach to the students. Syllabus plays a very important role in teaching the English language and also in other subjects.

Syllabus helps the teachers to prepare the important factors of the course and organized the overall course to teach to the students step by step.

5. Limited Time for Lecture:

Time is the most important thing in learning the English language but the teachers mostly faced time problems in teaching the English language.

It takes time for the teachers to observe their students and teach them at their level. The time of the class is very less for the teachers to teach the English language.

Speaking other languages or speaking in the native language is the most noticeable issue faced by English teachers. For the students, it's very easy to speak in their native language or other languages which they can speak easily instead of the English language.

Another noticeable problem faced by the teachers is the students completely depend on the teachers. They didn’t try to learn and speak themselves. Those students every time look to the teachers for helping them in learning and giving them the correct answers.

9. Students Bored and not Interested:

Students getting bored and not interesting in learning the English language is also a problem faced by teachers.

Sometimes the students are not interested in learning and attending the lectures of the English language. Then they try to do other activities.

10. Difficult to Managed the Class:

In the English learning academies, it can be found that mostly the students in the English classes belong to different backgrounds. ในปัจจุบันภาษาอังกฤษมีความสำคัญมากที่หลายๆ คนไม่สามารถ ปฏิเสธได้ เป็นภาษาที่ใช้ในการติดต่อสื่อสารในชีวิตประจำวัน ทางธุรกิจ สังคม และการเมืองกับ ประชาคมโลก นอกจากนั้นภาษาอังกฤษยังใช้เป็นภาษากลางในการแลกเปลี่ยนข้อมูลข่าวสาร เป็นภาษาที่ใช้ในระดับโลกระหว่างกลุ่มคนที่ใช้ภาษาที่แตกต่างกันหรือใช้เป็นภาษาที่สอง[1]ความสามารถในการติดต่อสื่อสารโดยใช้ภาษาอังกฤษได้นั้นทำให้เข้าใจในเรื่องของ ขนบธรรมเนียมประเพณี วัฒนธรรม สังคมและเศรษฐกิจซึ่งมีผลอย่างมากในการติดต่อสื่อสารระหว่าง ประเทศ และเป็นภาษาที่ใช้ในการทำงานของกลุ่มประเทศอาเซียน (The working language of ASEAN) ตามที่ระบุไว้ในบัตรสมาคมประชาชาติแห่งเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ ข้อ 34[2] ซึ่งประเทศไทยเป็นประเทศหนึ่งที่อยู่ในกลุ่มประเทศ อาเซียนที่ใช้ภาษาอังกฤษในการติดต่อสื่อสารกับชนชาติอื่นที่เข้ามาเยือนในประเทศรวมถึงใช้ในการติดต่อทางธุรกิจ และในปัจจุบันธุรกิจอุตสาหกรรมส่วนใหญ่นอกจากจะคัดเลือกบุคคลากรที่มี ความสามารถเฉพาะด้านเข้าร่วมในองค์กรแล้ว ความสามารถในการใช้ภาษาอังกฤษก็เป็นอีกหนึ่งเหตุผลที่มีความสำคัญไม่น้อยที่มีผลต่อการรับคัดเลือกเข้าทำงาน ซึ่งเห็นได้จากแบบทดสอบหรือแบบ สัมภาษณ์ในการรับเข้าทำงานใช้ภาษาอังกฤษมากขึ้น หรืออาจจะต้องใช้ผลการสอบภาษาอังกฤษที่ ได้รับการรับรองมาตรฐาน ตัวอย่างเช่นผลการสอบ TOEIC TOEFL และ IELTS เป็นต้น จิรัชญา ศุขโคภา และศิริจันทร์ พฤกษาอารักษ์[3]ได้กล่าวว่าบุคคลที่มีความสามารถในด้านภาษาอังกฤษ ก็มีโอกาสที่จะได้รับเลือกเข้าทำงานได้ง่ายกว่าและมีโอกาสที่จะได้รับอัตราค่าจ้างที่สูงกว่าบุคคลที่ไม่มี ความสามารถในด้านการใช้ภาษาอังกฤษ จึงถือได้ว่าภาษาอังกฤษมีความสำคัญและช่วยเพิ่มโอกาสในการเข้าทำงานในองค์กรต่างๆ ได้มากยิ่งขึ้น ภาษาอังกฤษมีความสำคัญมากสำหรับกลุ่มคนที่ใช้ภาษาอังกฤษเป็นภาษาที่สอง เพื่อใช้ ติดต่อสื่อสารในชีวิตประจำวันและทางธุรกิจ รวมถึงในด้านอื่นๆ โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งความสามารถใน การพูด[4]กล่าวว่าความสามารถในการพูดมีความสำคัญในการเรียนภาษาที่สองหรือ ภาษาต่างประเทศ และความสำเร็จในการใช้ภาษาคือสามารถสื่อสารได้ด้วยการพูด

จากปัญหาที่ทำให้การเรียนภาษาที่สองโดยเฉพาะการพูด ไม่ประสบความสำเร็จเนื่องจากสาเหตุที่ว่าไม่รู้จะพูดอย่างไร กลัวพูดผิดและกลัวเสียหน้า และสิ่งเหล่านี้เป็นสาเหตุสำคัญที่คนไทยไม่สามารถพูดภาษาอังกฤษได้โดยเฉพาะวัยผู้ใหญ่ เพราะวิธีการสอนภาษาอังกฤษแบบดั้งเดิมที่เน้นการสอนไวยากรณ์ไม่ได้เน้นสอนให้มีการฝึกพูด ไม่มีสื่อและวิธีการสอนที่จูงใจที่จะให้การพูดภาษาอังกฤษเกิดขึ้นอย่างเป็นธรรมชาติ จึงทำให้ ไม่สามารถพูดภาษาอังกฤษได้ ซึ่งถ้าหากเราสามารถใช้ภาษาในการสื่อสารในชีวิตประจำวันได้ด้วย การพูด ถือว่าเป็นประโยชน์ที่แท้จริงจากภาษานั้นๆ[5]เนื่องด้วยความสำคัญของภาษาอังกฤษส่งผลต่อการใช้ภาษาอังกฤษในทุกเพศ ทุกวัย และทุกสาขาอาชีพ ทั้งนักเรียน คนทำงานและบุคคลทั่วไป มีความต้องการที่จะเรียนภาษาอังกฤษ เพื่อนำไปใช้ในการสื่อสาร

ดังนั้นคนส่วนใหญ่จึงตัดสินใจที่จะเลือกเรียนเพื่อพัฒนาความสามารถในการพูดภาษาอังกฤษกับโรงเรียนอังกฤษมากขึ้น และมีความคาดหวังว่าการที่ตัดสินใจ เลือกเรียนเพื่อฝึกความสามารถในการพูดภาษาอังกฤษในโรงเรียนจะสามารถตอบโจทย์ใน การพูดภาษาอังกฤษของพวกเขาได้จริง โรงเรียนก็ควรจะต้องตอบสนองความต้องการ ของผู้ที่ให้ความสนใจที่จะเรียนเพื่อพัฒนาความสามารถในการพูดภาษาอังกฤษ และที่สำคัญควรจะมีวิธีการสอนที่จูงใจให้ผู้เรียนเกิดการอยากเรียนรู้ ไม่เกิดความเบื่อหน่ายเหมือนกับที่ผู้เรียนได้เรียนมาในชั้นเรียนที่เน้นการสอนไวยากรณ์และท่องจำ ซึ่งวิธีการสอนควรจะทำให้ผู้เรียนได้ฝึกการพูดอย่างเป็นธรรมชาติได้ โดยเลือกกิจกรรมที่น่าสนใจและสามารถช่วยฝึกความสามารถในการพูด เช่น กิจกรรมการอภิปราย การรายงาน การเล่าเรื่อง การสัมภาษณ์ และบทบาทสมมติ เป็นต้น สำนักงาน คณะกรรมการการศึกษาขั้นพื้นฐาน[6]มีนโยบายให้ปรับเปลี่ยนการจัดการเรียนการสอน ภาษาอังกฤษให้เน้นการสอนเพื่อการสื่อสารมากขึ้น โดยคำนึงถึงธรรมชาติของการเรียนรู้ภาษา โดยเริ่มจากการฟัง ตามด้วยการพูด การอ่าน และการเขียนตามลำดับ

ผู้วิจัยได้ศึกษาการส่งเสริมการอ่านภาอังกฤษชั้นประถมศึกษาปีที่ 3 โดยใช้นิทานธรรมบทในพระพุทธศาสนา เพื่อพัฒนาความสามารถในการพูดภาษาอังกฤษและเห็นว่ากิจกรรมบทบาทสมมติเป็นกิจกรรมที่น่าสนใจ และสามารถช่วยให้ผู้เรียน เกิดความสามารถในการพูดภาษาอังกฤษได้จริง ผู้เรียนจะมีความคล่องแคล่วในการสื่อสารโดยใช้ ภาษาอังกฤษผ่านกิจกรรมบทบาทสมมติที่ช่วยในการฝึกพูดอย่างเป็นธรรมชาติ และผู้เรียนจะมี ความรู้สึกลืมไปว่าพวกเขากำลังเรียนอยู่ เพราะการใช้กิจกรรมบทบาทสมมติเป็นรูปแบบการเรียนที่ 3 ไม่เป็นทางการและไม่มีโครงสร้างที่ผู้เรียนรู้สึกว่าเป็นกฎที่ตายตัว และให้โอกาสผู้เรียน ในการแสดงออก ซึ่งแตกต่างจากรูปแบบการสอนแบบบรรยาย[7]อีกทั้งกิจกรรมบทบาทสมมติเป็นรูปแบบการเรียนการสอนที่เน้นให้ผู้เรียนได้มีส่วนร่วม ในการแสดงออกในเรื่องของการสื่อสารอย่างชัดเจน และยังทำให้ผู้เกิดความสนุกสนานในขณะที่ ทำกิจกรรม เพราะผู้เรียนได้แสดงบทบาทที่หลากหลายและได้มีปฏิสัมพันธ์กับเพื่อนร่วมห้องผ่าน บทบาทที่ตนเองได้รับ นอกจากนั้นกิจกรรมบทบาทสมมติยังทำให้ผู้เรียนเกิดความคิดสร้างสรรค์ใน การแสดงบทบาทนั้นๆ กิจกรรมบทบาทสมมติมีความสำคัญมากในการพัฒนาความสามารถในการพูด เพราะทำให้ผู้เรียนมีโอกาสในการฝึกการสื่อสารในหลากหลายบริบทและหลากหลายหน้าที่ ผู้เรียน ยังมีความคิดสร้างสรรค์ในการแก้ไขปัญหาในบทบาทที่ตนเองกำลังแสดง ผู้เรียนไม่เป็นเพียงแค่ผู้ที่ คอยนั่งฟังการบรรยายเพียงอย่างเดียว[8]แต่ยังเป็นผู้เรียนที่ได้ร่วมแสดงออกหรือ มีส่วนร่วมในการเรียนการสอนจากกิจกรรมที่หลากหลายอีกด้วย[9]กิจกรรมบทบาทสมมติเป็นกิจกรรมที่นำเข้าข้อมูลไม่มากนัก หมายถึงการสอนเนื้อหาที่เป็นเป้าหมาย เพียงเล็กน้อย แต่ได้ผลลัพธ์สูงมาก (low input-high output) คือผู้เรียนได้นำเนื้อหานั้นๆ มาฝึกใช้ และแก้ไขปัญหาด้วยตนเองย่างหลากหลาย[10]กิจกรรมบทบาทสมมตินั้น ถ้าดำเนินการอย่างถูกต้อง จะเป็นกิจกรรมที่มีประสิทธิภาพในการกระตุ้นการเรียนรู้และทำให้ผู้เรียน ได้ใช้ภาษาอย่างมีความคิดสร้างสรรค์และเป็นธรรมชาติมากที่สุด[11]

Abstract

White matter tissue properties are highly correlated with reading proficiency; we would like to have a model that relates the dynamics of an individual’s white matter development to their acquisition of skilled reading. The development of cerebral white matter involves multiple biological processes, and the balance between these processes differs between individuals. Cross-sectional measures of white matter mask the interplay between these processes and their connection to an individual’s cognitive development. Hence, we performed a longitudinal study to measure white-matter development (diffusion-weighted imaging) and reading development (behavioral testing) in individual children (age 7–15 y). The pattern of white-matter development differed significantly among children. In the left arcuate and left inferior longitudinal fasciculus, children with above-average reading skills initially had low fractional anisotropy (FA) that increased over the 3-y period, whereas children with below-average reading skills had higher initial FA that declined over time. We describe a dual-process model of white matter development comprising biological processes with opposing effects on FA, such as axonal myelination and pruning, to explain the pattern of results.

Incidental L2 vocabulary learning from viewing captioned videos: Effects of learner-related factors

Abstract

Studies using captioned videos have shown benefits for incidental vocabulary learning. However, little research has considered learner-related factors in this type of learning by viewing captioned videos. The present study aims to fill this gap by examining the impact of watching a documentary TV program on incidental vocabulary learning and assessing to what extent this learning is influenced by learner-related factors (i.e., L2 proficiency level and language aptitude). Eighty-two Chinese-speaking EFL learners were divided into two groups: one that watched a video with captions and another that watched a video without captions. Measures included four dimensions of vocabulary knowledge (i.e., recognition and recall of word form and meaning); L2 proficiency level and language aptitude were controlled as covariates. MANCOVA results demonstrated that viewing a documentary video affected incidental vocabulary learning to varying degrees in terms of recognizing and recalling word form and meaning. The caption group made considerably more significant vocabulary learning gains than the group not exposed to captions. The examined learner-related variables also significantly influenced incidental vocabulary learning gains when viewing captioned videos. However, L2 proficiency level was not a significant predictor of word meaning recall and recognition. These findings provide pedagogical implications for using captioned videos to enhance incidental vocabulary learning.
