Hey there! I'm Aysenur, an international student at Rutgers University. Originally hailing from Turkey, but my journey has had stops in diverse countries like India, Jordan, and my beloved Chile. These experiences have woven a rich tapestry of cultural influences into the fabric of who I am today.

One of my deepest passions is the beauty of languages. Being immersed in various linguistic landscapes has fueled my fascination. I find joy in unraveling the threads that connect people through their words, expressions, and stories.

This space on the web is to share a little bit of my experiences, insights, and discoveries through the EAP course.

Reflection of my Writing Journey

Honestly, the EAP II course has been more rewarding than I ever imagined. That's why I'm genuinely excited to share my journey and work in the Final Presentation. From the Literacy Narrative Project to the Source Assessment Project, diving into a mix of multimodal texts has not only deepened my understanding as a reader and writer but has also boosted my creativity and academic writing process.

Picking a favorite project is tough, but the one that brought me the most joy was the Literacy Narrative. It gave me the freedom to express myself in various tones – be it sarcastic, sincere, angry, or melancholy. I got to decide how personal I wanted to get. Using detailed descriptions and sensory details, I painted a vivid picture of my experiences. And the project went beyond just sharing my story; it allowed me to explore its broader significance by delving into the social, political, cultural, and personal contexts. All while maintaining proper organization in a structured setting.

Now, let's talk about the challenge. The Drawing Connections Project, an argumentative essay, pushed me out of my comfort zone. Weaving together multimodal texts to respond to the project question in a meaningful and analytical way was no easy for me. Connecting the different sources cohesively required a lot of thought and reshaping. I tackled this challenge through multiple revisions, and while progress was made, it's an area I still need to work on. The revision process involved relentless re-thinking of the essay, considering aspects such as analysis, organization, structure, coherence, and cohesiveness. Seeking feedback from diverse perspectives played a crucial role in this iterative process. All these tools leaded to the creation of multiple drafts.

Looking back, this course has been a journey of self-discovery and skill development for me. I'm not just excited to share this growth but also looking forward to the continued progress in my academic writing journey. I would advise incoming EAP II students to embrace the writing process to the fullest. Revisions are your best friend, so embrace them without hesitation. Ask for and accept criticism from instructors and fellow students. Read widely and critically—beyond the assigned texts as well as other works. Each word you read teaches you something new. Finally, don't be scared to use your own voice in your writing. That is what adds value to your viewpoint. Make the most of your opportunity to grow in this class.
