Hip-Hop originated in the boroughs of New York City. Not long after its birth in the 70s, hip-hop spread like wildfire across the United States and around the world, with imitation and replication as a factor of this dispersal and mixing of musical and lyrical styles.

Hip-Hop doesn't have instruments specific to the genre other than the unique modifying of other music's sound. While hip-hop has no specific instruments, the music is most popularly played through loud speakers such as boomboxes. Very common instruments do include, kick drums, closed and open hi-hats, snares and percussive instruments. Any instrument that can create a melody including a voice is even used.

The passing down of hip-hop is brought through general upbringing and feel for personal tastes of music. The passing down is based on where you grew up such as New York, Atlanta and Chicago. Cultures have different sounds in every one of these places, but remain the same genre. In New York City, many of the topics included daily strolls through the streets, whilst less busy areas, had more of a car cruise vibe to it. Chicago has a strong soul to it that imbues any kind of music into its art form.

The role for this genre of music is to truly express in-depth how the songwriter feels. Whatever topic they strive for can be rapped in length. The purpose of this music is so the speaker can get the most out of it lyrically. This genre is the most lyrically defined with the most words in every general song. Its expressive element is what gives hip-hop its unique touch.

Hip-hop has evolved as a genre as much as technology has evolved. Using specialized sounds has allowed the sound of hip-hop to reach much more unique sounds. There has been many new sub-genres created with the basis of hip-hop such as trap-hop and soulful hip-hop. More unique sounds have been created for specialized emotions and more time is being spent perfecting the craft now than ever.

This piece reflects on the darker side of hip-hop and how the energy of flaunting objective items that many don't have, can manifest in people causing laziness. Another topic he reflects on, is the popularization of putting yourself in danger to make yourself seem "better" than everyone else.
