At the school I participated in two workshops: paper circuits and making with cardboard. I was informed and inspired in many ways. Caty and Shannon are experts. They do want us to excel. When we solved the problem of using one sheet of paper to hold a ream of paper up 1", I quickly crumpled a ball of paper, and it worked. Caty would not let us get away with that answer, so we went ahead and rolled 4 small tubes that also did the trick. What was great about this ( and also the cardboard challenge ) was the huge difference in how the teams solved the same problem. I feel confident that I will be able to introduce Tinkercad to my 5th and 6th graders. Now, I am thinking about a project or a prompt to make it a deep learning experience. I thought about having students create their initials - I'd also get them to print out extra vowels - and we'd see what words we could create from the letters - and then later hang them in the "new" makerspace for a while - and then, of course, they'd string them up and hang them on a backpack. Even though she had another class coming in, she made sure I was set up for my project. It took time, but there was success. In no time, the Glow Forage precisely cut out all of our designs. I have put my on a chain. In the center I have the letters LED. I hope to add led's to the back of this piece. We have used the chroma color with iMovie and WeVideo a bit, but I always need more practice. Her clip was a bit short, so I brought it into iMovie to reverse the clip, and then added that reverse clip to the movie. Now I am adding a red sparkly graphic (this is all happening 8/7). Now I have spent way too much time on trying to select a different beginning thumbnail. Yikes, i can't give up! I uploaded the WeVideo into Vimeo and was able to easily choose a new thumbnail. Guess that is a step I need to lean on WeVideo. I notice that sometimes the thumbnails come up, and sometimes they don't. Whatever.
