Parents just have to be the "bad guys" here. They need to set a time when all technology has to be turned off. If their student argues about giving up their phone or turning off the video games at 9:00 (for example), then a logical consequence would be that the next night it has to be off by 8:00.

It is statistically proven that students that do not get 8 to 9 hours of sleep will have a decrease in their grades. So, if one of my students is slipping academically, I could suggest to parents to limit the amount of time they are spending in front of a screen right before they go to bed in order to allow them to get a quality night sleep.

I've never understood TVs in bedrooms; I've always thought of that as a hotel room setup, out of necessity when there's only one room for everything. TVs should be in a shared room, as a shared activity. I feel the same about screens as well. Our daughters are not allowed to take the iPad into their bedrooms, with exceptions made if they are watching something together.

I think parents should take away cell phones from their teens prior to going to bed. Also, it is suggested that teenagers do not actually start to feel tired until 11pm, with that being said, should we possibly delay the start of school for these kiddos?? Just a thought.
