Open Source CAT: OmegaT

I have learnt about an open source CAT tool - OmegaT and its basic functionalities. I have learnt how to create new projects, translate texts, confirm segments, work with tags, localization resources, run and use QA, add notes to texts and terms to glossaries, use dictionaries, find and use statistics. I have learnt how to work with TMs, TBs, how to extract TT and import ST. I have watched videos about OmegaT on Pegaz and used some other resources that I will list in the next post.
This CAT tool has pretty sophisticated interface as for me, it is not intuitive. Many of the functionalities are "hidden" and you always need to know specific "paths" to find them.

I have read a couple of articles on OmegaT website to understand this CAT tool better as it is free but complicated. I have also read the manuals for beginners, which was very helpful (https://omegat.org/documentation#manual).

Memsource Cloud is my favorite CAT tool. I was using it mainly during Cochrane project but I was also translating some of my personal texts there. This CAT tool has very intuitive interface and is comfortable to use. I was translating texts, working with tags, TMs, TBs, glossaries, QA, etc.

I was taking part in Cochrane project as a Project Manager. The whole communication was taking place on Slack. It was my first experience working with Slack and, I must admit, this platform is convenient to use for such projects. I was communicating and helping my colleagues, organizing the process of translation, and revising texts.
It is a great experience because it is beneficial for our future careers in translation and it is the best way to practice in Memsource.

For me, memoQ was similar to OmegaT - they are complicated and have similar interface. MemoQ has many functions, which allow you to translate in comfortable conditions. I worked with TT, ST, alignment, segments, Tags, QA, etc. "Pre-translation" and "WebSearch" are the functions that I really liked.

To understand this CAT better, I was frequently using its website, which tends to be very helpful since you can find there almost all the manuals that you need (https://www.memoq.com).
