Freshmen year of high school, I took an aptitude test in my math class that came up with a list of professions that would be best suitable for me based off how I answered certain questions. Prior to this, I had never heard of occupational therapy, but my mom was interested in the list and told me that I should do further research into occupational therapy. Along with the aptitude test, I had to do a presentation on occupational therapy as this was the "chosen" career I had picked for myself. This project allowed me to learn more about the profession and see how many opportunities and pathways there are within the field. My mom works at a hospital and knows the occupational therapist at the outpatient clinic, so I was allowed to shadow her for one day there to see if this was something that I was really interested in. I fell in love with the work from that day. I then became apart of my high school's internship program which allowed me to intern for the occupational therapist within the elementary schools in my town during the last block of my day. I maintained this internship for the last two years of high school, and was able to implement intervention plans in my senior year as I had now been working with the students for over a year.
Growing up, I have always been the one who wanted to help others even if it means putting them before myself.
