Session learning outcomes

By the end of the session students should be able to explain what non verbal communication is and give some examples of non verbal communication.

1. Acquisition activity

Aim: To introduce the topic of Non verbal communication.

Give a brief introduction of non verbal communication and ask students if anyone uses non verbal communication.

Go through PowerPoint of non verbal communication so students understand the topic.

Timing: 20 minutes

2: Investigation activity

Aim: Create a short lesson surrounding the positive effects of using non verbal communication.

Students create an asynchronous lesson lasting no more than 2 minutes and upload it to google classroom to share with the rest of the class.

Aim: Students will look at a posted image on google classroom and use the discussion box to analyse both positives and negatives in the non verbal communication photo.

Timing: 10 minutes

4. Acquisition activity 2

Aim: students must create a order for the list below in order of importance on the different types of non verbal communication.

1: Eye contact

2: Facial expressions

3: Active listening

4: Posture

5: Gestures

6: Personal space

7: Appearance

8: Tone of voice

Students will upload there completed list to google classroom for other students to see and compare answers.

4: Practice and Collaboration

Aim: Students will create a PowerPoint presentation in groups of 3.

The PowerPoint will be about the disadvantages of non verbal communication, the groups must record their PowerPoint videos and upload them to google classroom. Once the video has been made students must peer asses the others in their own group and give a rating from 1-5

Timing: 30 minutes

Resources: PowerPoint, google classroom and internet browser.

5: Wrap and Check Knowledge

Aim: To check students learning and understanding of the material.

Students will complete the google form uploaded to the google classroom and submit it.

Timing: 5 minutes
