Answer - I believe in a general awareness of the human condition and I always try to put myself in others shoes and think and react to a particular situation, irrespective of their culture, colour, sex or creed. An understanding that their perspective can also be correct.

How do schools prepare students for global citizenship within Biology and other group 4 subjects?

Answer - As far as my school is concerned, we always provide a world within a school so that students from different cultural and religious background mingle with each other and can learn to respect each other's feelings. We celebrate our success together and our students have the capacity to take setbacks together as well.

In group 4 subjects along with Biology and even with Cambridge programmes, we make it a point to discuss topics that are integrated with subjects like Geography, Systems and Societies, ESS etc. so that the students can relate their learning and they get an idea how the knowhow of today were influenced by the discoveries of scientists and researchers from across the planet.

What are the ways in which the texts, topics, or ideas in your classroom have benefitted from contributions from other communities, cultures, and nationalities?

Answer - Definitely Science as a whole is a combined effort of discoveries and theories from across the globe.

Without Mendeleef, we would still have been struggling with elements. We can understand Biology better because of Watson and Crick's ground breaking discovery. We can also talk of morality in science by taking example of Watson and Crick's infamous theft of idea from the Dark Lady of DNA and this is a glaring example of academic honesty and integrity. We need to be equally thankful to Abraham Ortelius, the Belgian cartographer, who was responsible for publishing the first world atlas. He is also said to be the proponent of Continental Drift.

So as students and teachers of Science, we need to respect the fact that advancements in the field of Science and improvements in the quality of human life is a result of global citizenship and international integrity.

Answer - My school lays emphasis on recognising and respecting the contributions of scientists and researchers from across the planet for whom we can see and study sciences the way they are. It's an ongoing multicultural effort to make the human life better, respecting mother nature.

I specially like to talk about the history of any concepts I teach in Science or Biology, making sure I respect the valueable contribution of the person in shaping the concept.
