The American Dream - Bea

By definition, the American Dream represents the ideals of freedom, equality, and opportunity traditionally held to be available to every American. This is a hope that everybody hopes to achieve, including immigrants coming in to the country. The American Dream gives a chance to anybody to achieve what they want to do. However, this is just a fantasy. Climbing up the ladder to fame and fortune is not as easy as the American Dream implies. In the Great Gatsby, we see how Gatsby has achieved his wealth through illegal actions, something that the American Dream does not really imply.
