         <description><![CDATA[<div>China invented the gunpowder. Gun and gunpowder. Once gunpowder had been invented in China, the Silk Road helped spread it westwards. The first known instances of gunpowder in china are from 850 AD, but there is now evidence of gunpowder being used for military purposes there until 919 AD. Under the rule of the T'ang Dynasty, about 700 AD, people used gunpowder more. T'ang Dynasty emperors used gunpowder to put on great fireworks displays. Two hundred years later, in 904 AD , Chinese inventors saw that you could also use gunpowder as a weapon. First the army used fire arrows and fire spears.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Silk Road, also called Silk Route, ancient trade route, linking China with the west, that carried goods and ideas between the two great civilizations of Rome and China. Silk went westward, and wool's, gold, and silver went east. China also received Nestorius Christianity and Buddhism (from India) via the Silk Road. Besides silk the Chinese also exported (sold) teas, salt, sugar, porcelain, and spices. Most of what was traded was expensive luxury goods. This was because it was a long trip and merchants didn't have a lot of room for goods. They imported, or bought, goods like cotton, ivory, wool, gold, and silver.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Great Wall of China is a series of fortifications made of stone, brick, tamped earth, wood, and other materials, generally built along an east-to-west line across the historical northern borders. The primary purpose was always to protect the Chinese Empire from the Mongolians and other invaders. Most of the current great wall we see today was built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and is approximately 6000km long. 2. ... The Mongols were a tribal group that would regularly conduct raids into China.</div>]]></description>
