This summer we offered our Explorations in Drawing & Painters Studio.

In Explorations in Drawing students explore the rich materials, concepts, and techniques of drawing. Several sessions focus on drawing from a nude model, while others investigate traditional and nontraditional approaches to various subjects, including nature, architecture, and abstraction.

Students develop their ability to see and then translate the visual experience into drawing using form, light, space, scale, and proportions to create strong compositions.

Participants interpret their personal visions using pencil, charcoal, pastel, and other media.


In Painter's studio while focusing on creative image-making in a variety of painting media, you are encouraged to take risks on your way to artistic discovery.

Covering multiple aspects of the painter's studio, topics range from stretching canvases and preparing surfaces for painting (such as wood and paper) to using nontraditional means to apply paint.

Daily demonstrations of materials and specific application processes help build a vocabulary of techniques while allowing students to experiment and develop a personal painting style.

Wendy is a recent graduate from the MFA Studio Arts program at California College of the Arts. Her work has been included in solo and group exhibitions across Northern California. Recent awards and shows include: The AXA National Graduate Student Art Prize Show, New York City, Oct. 2021, “Contested Territories,” Anglim Trimble Gallery, San Francisco, July 2021, Winner of The AXA Art National Graduate Student Art Competition, June 2021 , “The Peaceful Life,” Orinda/Contra Costa County Library, Orinda, CA, June 2021 and Dean’s Spotlight for MFA Class of 2021.

Prior to studying art, Wendy received her master's degree in sociology at Pittsburg State University and spent 20 years teaching sociology and the Chinese language at community colleges and high schools

Her art interests and focus are on changing the stereotypes and reducing hatred and violence against minorities in this country. As a proud Asian American and immigrant, she believes all humans are the same beneath the skin and all of us are vulnerable.
