The process of classifying plants help in terms of distinguishing similarities and differences between plants. Taxonomy is the process of naming and grouping species to a shared classification system. As you go down sub levels of classification, you find that species are more and more closely related as they share more and more characteristics. The classification system starts at kingdom, goes to phylum, class, order, family, genus, and ends with species. Plant classification is according to body shape, how vascular the tissue is, whether it produces seeds or not, and how the seed is covered or coated.
