SILENT ROTTING

How can we resist censorship and erasure?
What forms can resistance take when voices are silenced?

How can memory become an act of defiance?

SILENT ROTTING is inspired by the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement that began in Iran in 2022, after the tragic death of Jina Mahsa Amini. She was arrested by the “morality police” for not wearing her hijab properly. Her death sparked nationwide protests, where women and young people demanded justice, freedom, and equality. The slogan “Woman, Life, Freedom” has since become a powerful symbol of resistance and hope.

The installation recalls the graffiti and slogans that were quickly written during the protests, acts of defiance that were quickly erased, but never fully silenced.

At its core, SILENT ROTTING is a reflection on memory as resistance, a refusal to forget and a commitment to remembering. It invites visitors to think about the connection between voice and silence, presence and absence, and how we can hold space for suppressed histories and enduring hope.

The one in the centre with a miniature model on top, one in the background with research posted on it like flyers. Research on the floor spread around.
