An event that shows me the author's personality is when she gets burned with boiling water from cooking hot dogs, and has to go to the hospital for a while. This shows me that the author's personality is positive and upbeat because she always looks at the positive rather than the negative. For example, when the doctors told her that she was going to be okay, she replied by saying "I know, but if I'm not, that's okay, too".

Some emotions that the book evokes to me are, happiness, sadness, and positiveness. A passage that supports this is when Jeanette and her family is doing the "skedaddle", she's always positive and happy to move away meanwhile her siblings don't really enjoy leaving their life's behind and starting new ones over and over again.

The meaning of the text changes as I read the novel by the tone of the text changing from happiness and cheerful from Jeanette going on adventures with her family and feeling those emotions, to anger and sadness from Jeanette resenting her parents way of raising them and their lies that they tell them.

My values alter the perception of the text by not agreeing with the way their parents raise their children
