"It's My Life" by Bon Jovi
"I did it my way
I just want to live while I'm alive
It's my life"
This song and especially these lyrics relate to transcendentalism and especially to the idea of self reliance and minimalist living. I think Bon Jovi tries to tell us in this song to live purposefully and how you want to live. You should not be swayed by what other people want you to do and you do not need much to live a great life.

Like when Thoreau lived alone in the woods, these lyrics show that without people and material items you become more free and can live life to its fullest potential.

In this podcast "On Nonconformity" by Thunk, the author brings about a good point about the transcendental idea of nonconformity. He says that although some conformity in life is okay and necessary, you should not let your thoughts conform. People too often go against their own judgement if they are in a group, for they are being influenced by their peers and this is what people should try not to do, do not conform to those around you and think for yourself!

It is hard to not conform and not do what society tells you to do but once you break free and follow your own path, that is a great accomplishment.
