James Cook wanted to go and map the stars. Before he started exploring, he moved to the coast, hoping to be a coal merchant. When he got there he in love with the ocean and then joined the royal navy. He was sent to the South Pacific by the navy to view the stars and search for new lands. He went with Charles Green and botanist Joseph Banks. He was motivated by glory because he would be the first to see if Venus would cross over the Sun. A second goal was to find new land and trade partners for the British.

How James Cook treated the natives?

A group of Hawaiian natives stole a small cutter vessel from one of the ships and Cook reportedly said,
"I was afraid that these people will oblige me to use some violent measures. They must not be left to imagine that they have gained some advantage over them." He treated them hard because he didn't want them to take advantage of him. He took one of the natives to try to make the natives scared of him. The natives were cannibals and for that reason he was scared of them.

The native Hawaiians were quite welcoming when the sailors showed up. The chief on Kauai was quite hospitable and impressed by this expedition. He traded fairly and gave a fair amount of food and water hospitably. Cook did not reciprocate with the chief for his offerings.

What happened to the natives when James Cook was there?

When he got there he was welcomed as a sacred chief or god. Some of the natives were infected with diseases from Captains Cook's ships. Captain Cook brought new things like iron and more, which helped the natives to make tools. James Cook was nice to the natives until he took one native hostage. Cook and his men took a lot of the resources from the area to provision their ships. The natives lives were better because they got new materials, but the downside of this was that they lost almost all their resources and they caught a lot of deadly diseases.

Did James Cook help claim land for a kingdom?

Yes he did claim land for a kingdom because he found the Hawaiian islands and named them Sandwich islands. He also found the South wales. He brought the kingdom these but they did not do much. His maps were very helpful and pleasing due to his scientific method. They were the only maps that were drawn perfectly and were right. This helped the British Empire expand around the world.

Some do to start over and build a new life. They do it because it was for a new way to have a new life, to lose your past life and to hope for a better future. If their life was bad then they could start over and the other people will not know of there past or what they have done. The natives who live there normally died out because some many people move there.

They would colonize for the money too hoping to get rich and to have a better future.
