The name 'Another Man' is aimed to relate to males of maybe not mainstream interests, this can really captivate males whom want a magazine to center around something that peaks their interest. Another Man really represents male alternative fashion in a good way rather than looking down on it, it gives males a chance and the freedom to really express their selves through the world of fashion in a way that they feel comfortable to do. What it additionally does is incorporate a whole lifestyle aspect within the fashion, it looks at sub topics like film, TV and music to increase it's audience. Furthermore, they increase their audience by using a large celebrity on their front cover whom they do center the issue and the marketing of their issue around, stars such as Cillian Murphy, Harry Styles, Georgia May Jagger and Dane DeHaan.

Another Man is released a few times throughout the year having a more seasonal release compared to it's competitors, this works in its favor as it can work on marketing it's issue for longer while also having a longer time to get the biggest and most relevant star that fits their target audience. A unique selling point and way that ensures Another Man started on a good foot was through the ownership of Paul McCartney. The images in this magazine do generally focus on the appearance of the models however, the articles do focus on things out of the proximity of image. They try to incorporate very important issues and want to create an image of their models where they appear intelligent with opinions on real world matters. The primary audience for this magazine would be younger males most likely between the ages of 18-30, the magazine is prices at £5.95, this for a monthly magazine would be considered costly but due to its bi-annual release it only equates to spending £11.90 a year on the magazine.

Front Cover

The front cover of this magazine is specifically focused on the image of the cover star, this is done through the main image being the only image on the magazine's front cover, it is the most predominant convention on the whole of the front cover taking up the largest portion of the cover, this is done so attention is drawn to the image over anything else as in this instance the cover star is Harry Styles who is one of the largest celebrities in the modern world, people will see his face and buy the magazine because he is on it over other factors such as price, what the magazine is and the magazines genre.

The image is additionally in black and white, this helps create an alternative theme for the magazine, the majority of the magazines front cover also sticks to this black and white theme other than the masthead. The masthead contrasts to the rest of the cover, this could be to make sure that it is noticeable to everyone who walks by. The chosen colour of the masthead is baby pink, this maintains the front covers theme of contrast as this in the mainstream is considered a very feminine colour, not something you would expect to appear on a cover of a male magazine. I would like to try and experiment with colour contrasting with black and white like this magazine does when I come to create mine, I additionally would like to blend and attempt to diminish gender stereotypes on my magazine.

The main cover line reads 'OH BOY! Harry Styles', with the second part of it 'Harry Styles' being much larger than the first part, this is to yet again create and draw in more attention to the magazine through their cover star. The cover line is directly in the centre of the magazine by doing this the magazine has created a kind of path way in the centre of the cover page leading down from the masthead to the main image and then finally to the cover line, this meaning the viewer can take in the three most important components of the front cover in quick succession. The headline gets straight to it's point only really mentioning the cover stars name, this too creates instant excitement about the star. The font that it is in is rather plain and simple, this creates a minimalist theme to the cover and yet again puts more attention on the model.

The additional sell lines are in the same serif font as the main cover line however, they are way smaller and are nowhere close to being as bold as the cover line. These sell lines yet again maintain the theme of everything staying central on the cover page, due to their size and lack of dominance on the cover they put all reader interest onto the main cover line therefore if this does not interest someone they may not look for the additional sell lines due to them being so minor.

The barcode is at the top left-hand side of the cover, this is unusual as barcodes are usually at the bottom of the magazines front cover or are located somewhere on the back page, this is due to them not contributing to the overall design of the cover thus meaning creators want to use the least valuable space possible for them.

Contents Page

Something instantly striking about this contents page is its lack of imagery, it really focuses on a minimalist mindset and really creates interest on the words which is something many contents pages have shied from despite their sole purpose to be informative. The fact the writing for part of the magazine is so bold gives the contents page a sense of power and authority as if it's so commanding you can not look away from it.

The contents page to sticks to a black and white theme with one page being printed in black with white text and the other white with black text, this means they oppose and contrast one another and in a way resemble the yin yang something what embeds this magazines ideal of kindness and free will.

The contents page here spreads across two pages which are something that is not regularly done, most magazines have their contents page on a sole page as it is only there to guide you to other pages and they feel it does not need to take up too much room.

The information and story headlines below each category are in a very small text, replicating the additional sell lines on the front cover. This means the reader's attention will at first be drawn to the stories categories. The font of the category titles is similar however it is much larger and bolder, these fonts keep the contents page very simple and minimalistic, something that is represented on the front cover, it is important that magazines theme and style choices condescend throughout the entire magazine and this is something that they achieve when turning from the front cover to the contents page. The usage of less extravagant fonts helps to maintain the down to earth and minimalist approach with the size of the page number also being a noticeable feature, they match the story type titles in size and really stand out on their own, they too are written in a bold and simplistic font so they fit in with the magazines overall themes.

Double Page Spread

The colour scheme on the double page spread matches that of the front cover and contents page and is black and white. The use throughout the magazine of black and white enforces the alternative and indie feel that the magazine is aiming towards, this is through many alternative and indie bands heavily using black and white themes throughout their work and now when it is used it implies that whatever is using it is trying to push its product towards them two themes.

The layout of this double page spread is rather simplistic and again minimalistic. This DPS is neither image or text led, this is due to both taking up a singular page each, the image is on the left meaning the reader will view that before they view the text so that could imply the magazine regard the image to be more important than the article, the title of the page is yet again written in a very simple but bold font. Above the title, they have the words 'fantastic man', this is a play on the magazine's name and also a way to tell off the star of this particular DPS by labeling him as something very good. Yet again all the writing is very centralised with the two halves of the article split very evenly to one side each, however, even this is centralised within the page as two lines make the whole page feel very neat and tidy. There's a large gap between the introductory paragraph and the articles main body this gives the article a minimalistic feel.

The image used is a mid shot, this allows the reader to view what the model is wearing in this particular photo. He has got a rather boldly patterned short sleeve shirt on which he has chosen to unbutton at the top of the shirt. Styling the model in this way gives off to the audience the kind of person that he is, it gives him an indie feel and the use of having the shirt unbuttoned also creates a sense of rock n roll what is a contrast to his job (a news anchor), they have in no way attempted to sexualise him and instead have gone for a facial expression where he looks rather knowledgeable. In the introductory paragraph, they have used language to make sound better using adjectives such as "sharp and ravishing" make the reader see him in a positive light.
