Hi Jem,

I’m very happy that you’ve written all the exams and can finally come! I haven’t seen you for a long time and I really want to catch up with you soon.

So, we have a lot of sun there and it’s very hot, so get a hat and don’t forget about suncream. Also, take slippers, to feel yourself comfortable.

We can go to the river, play games, go for a walk, where I can show you around our village – whatever we want. However, we still have to help my dad on the farm, because now he has a lot to do.

Cool idea! I also wanted to suggest it, but there are no tickets anymore.. That’s a pity, but we can go to another event these day, such as costume fair. What do you think about it? Actually, if you want to go, you need to bring a costume with you. It can be on any theme you want. Wait for your answer.

Bye,

Polina

A lot of them was created to make our life more convenient. For example, if you don’t want to cut vegetables for dinner you can use vegetable cutter or something else. People always wanted to make their life easier so they’re (have been )creating more and more new inventions (gadgets, mashines). And one of the best inventions for the moment is TV. In all parts of the day you can look for some news, animal or science fiction programs. It doesn’t matter what<del> </del><del>do </del><del>y</del>ou prefer, cause TV can show everything at every time. Don’t want to go to the cinema? No problem! TV will broadcast to you plenty of gripping films and all for free! And that's not all the advantages of the TV. So that’s why I think that the TV is one of the best inventions of humanity.

If so, it’s okey , because today I’m gonna tell you about this unbelievable kind of circus sport . It’s an activity I have done for a four years , and it’s great and lovely sport !

At first it’s not include only beautiful photos, but also dangerous tricks , and really hard work , with a lot of pain ;( You need to be philosophically strong person to do this kind of activity . If you want to try , I’ll tell you which equipment you need ! You don’t need much . If you want to do airy silks outside you need to bring with you a carbine , silk and rope , which you can tie to a tree . Airy silks or airy acrobatic include plenty of leg-splits , “cliffs” , and twists !

Why it is unusual? Because airy silks is circus sport , and especially I don’t see many people who do this sport ! This kind of activity is unusual and enjoyable because when you watch this show you're so engrossed that can’t look away ( can't take your eyes off), just believe me !

Have you ever seen people walking around with strange beeping equipment? If your answer is yes, then you have seen the lucky ones who are already involved in treasure hunting. Yes, I also do this incredible free-time activity with my friends on weekends.

Treasure hunting is a hobby and for some of the hunters even a lifestyle, which includes searching for various unknown finds. For this activity you need a metal detector and an unlimited amount of patience. I’ve been doing this activity for several years, so I can advise to every beginner buy a full set of real treasure hunter. You need a few pieces of equipment, such as special waterproof suit, boots, gloves, metal detector and insect repellent.

One of the unusual aspects of this activity is that you can do it anywhere in the world. Beaches, forests, swamps, mountains, jungles, deserts, treasures can be literally everywhere!

As for me, this is one of the reasons why people love treasure hunting. When I go somewhere with family or friends, and we are getting bored, we always know what to do in our free time. Even if we find something unimportant, the time we spent together is the main reward!

So, why not give it a go? I know many well-known treasure hunters who share their finds on the internet and earn a lot of money online. I'm sure you won't regret about this choice!

Rodion

It seems to me that our modern schools don’t prepare teenagers enough to be adults. A lot of factors tell us about it. For example, in schools usually we learn a plenty amount of information about nature, history, mathematics and art, but none of them want to teach us about some difficulties that we will face with in daily routine. Such as cooking, cleaning, budget allocation and socialization in society.

Also, one of the biggest problem is finding a suitable job for a student. Schools absolutely don’t provide any assistance in choosing a job and move all responsibility on you, while you’re studying and put all your efforts into your studies. As for me, schools have to help in choosing your profession and offer available options to you.

As well as getting a job, schools must help students with socialization in the environment, because the combination of stress and lack of psychological help puts a huge strain on students. add sth...

In conclusion, I would say that schools give us a decent knowledge base, but don’t prepare us enough for everyday life!

Rodion.

IPhone 14 Pro Max: The best flagship of the Apple

I’ve been using the IPhone 14 Pro Max for a couple of months now. I tested all the innovations and I’m ready to make a verdict whether it’s worth to switch your smartphone to the new one from the company Apple. To be honest, I was shocked by some moments both on the positive and on the negative sides.

At first, the advantages of the phone. It has better color palette than previous one and has bigger battery capacity. However (WE NEED A COMMA HERE)the main upgrade is a new camera which can film video in 4K 60 fps quality. It’s a big innovation which has no analogues on the market.

Unfortunately, there are also some disadvantages. It has (A) smaller screen compared to previous model. But still, the biggest drawback of this gadget is its price. It costs $1479 and not everyone can afford to buy this device.

In conclusion, I want to say that the IPhone 14 Pro Max is one of the best smartphone which is available on the market right now. It can suit to everyone especially who loves taking photos all the time. And I will recommend it for purchase to those who don’t mind spending a considerable amount of money for the best product on the market!

Rodion.

I have been using iPhone XR for more than a year now and I want to share my opinion about this gadget. I think this is a good phone that does its job well but still, during the use of this device, I highlighted not only the advantages. So, everything in order.

During last and this year I’ve used and using this device for everything: calls, texts, photos, films and even study. For me, it performs all the necessary functions that a phone can have. Without flaws and busts.

The big advantages of this gadget and the main reason why I wanted it, its camera and storage. iPhones are famous for their good quality video and photos, and it's not a lie. I like taking pictures and thanks to that functions I took a lot of cool and beautiful photos. Also, together with the mentioned above characteristics, you get a (THE)device that it is not very big (enormouse) and also has a good design.

But despite everything, of course there is a downside of it. One of the minuses is that it turns off at cold temperatures outside. I understand that weather like that is not suitable for gadgets, but it can be completely inconvenient when you need a phone right now.

In conclusion, I would say that I definitely recommend this phone for everyone. I think it is worth it and during the time of use I did not regret it at all.

Dear Editor,

It was interesting for me to read the article in your last issue about banning students from taking money or mobile phones at school. I would like to give my opinion about this topic because I don’t totally agree with the author.

In my opinion, it isn’t a good idea to ban students from taking important things such as money and mobile phones. At least, children need money to buy a lunch or to pay for a bus. Parents can’t always drive to school so students need to have another choice to go home. As for phones, it is dangerous in our days and I think that it is very important to have a phone with you. No one knows what can happen so phones are needful.

As for me, it is a big problem. It is possible to meet crimes almost in every school. In my opinion, first of all, we should pay attention on parentes. School is a place where students are studying but to raise children is a parent’s duty. So we need to find a way out with all our community????

The right way to escape this problem would be buying a CCTV cameras, for example.???? Also a good idea will be telling children about this problem once a month. Or teacher can take student’s phones in her box and when student needs it just give him his phone. But very important part is not to show children where this box is.

To sum up, money and phones are very important things in our days and they can really save a life. To solve this problem we need to look deeper. If we don’t allow students to take phones and money, nothing will change actually. That’s my opinion about it.

Yours faithfully,

Diana Klyueva

Dear Editor,

this morning I have read your article “How to prevent crime at school” in the magazine. It was quite interesting and great text, which about I want to share my thoughts now.

In my view, to ban students from taking money or mobile phones in school it’s not that good idea. Yes, this may solve the problem, but I don’t think the solution is suitable for our modern realities. Now in the world this things are an integral part of ordinary life and can be really useful in school. For example, with the help of money, students can buy lunch in the canteen or pay for the bus, and with the phone they will always be in contact with their parents. Also it can be useful in some lessons.

It seems to me that in order to prevent such cases, it will be enough just to introduce a few rules. The first is not to show anyone expensive devices and large sums of money that you have with you, and the second – keep all that in the safe place. I think it’s the most easy ways for you to protect yourself and your things from the hands of thieves.

In conclusion I would say that it is really a bid problem we need to deal with.

Schools should be places for studying, not for surviving.

Your faithfully, Polina Techynska

How to Prevent School Crimes More Effectively

Dear Editor,

I was interested to read the article in your last entitled ‘School crimes’. I absolutely disagree with general idea and some of the points which were made by the author. Considering that I can suggest some more effective ways to prevent crimes in schools.

In my view, banning students from taking money or mobile phones to school will negatively affects to the studying process because sometimes they have to use their mobile phones to find some information or videos on the topic of the lesson. Or if they are hungry it is possible to go to the canteen and buy some food for themselves. So instead of that school authority can install more surveillance cameras around all of the area to prevent crimes and hire more securities to spectate (patrol, monitor)for the students safety.

However, it will not decrease a youth crime at all and some students will continue trying to commit some crimes. But they will get punished more often and more severely and it will be much more effective way to prevent crimes... in the future. Because no one want to be a victim of a crime.

To conclude, pupils do not have to suffer because of some prohibitions at school. To avoid the school crimes we must work together on that with our authority and being free and in safety during the studying process is the most important thing.

Yours sincerely,

Rodion Andrushko

Dear Mrs Barton,

I am writing with regard to your request for suggestions to purchase some new sports equipment for our school. I would like to nominate several ideas for you.

Firstly, I want to talk about our current sports equipment. Our basketballs are in a very bad condition. Almost all of them having this small bumps, that makes them bouncing in the incorrect way. And that becomes the reason why some of our school local games are not playing fair. That is a huge problem for our school basketball team. So, I would<del> to </del>propose to (- ing) buy some new basketball from the company “Molten”. They are all in demolished condition and need to be replaced to the new oneS. Our gymnastics club will be very grateful for this.

My final suggestion is to propose to purchase something absolutely new that our school did not have (have not had ) before. Me and my classmates discussed that and now we have some ideas that I would like to share.

Firstly, we thought about new volleyball net. The ones we have are very old and in a bad condition. They are not suitable for the games in lessons and especially for the competition. Also this applies to the basketball basket.

The second thing that came to our mind it’s shuttlecocks. They saying that the old ones aren’t from the good material and asking for a better ones. I’m sure that it will improve the quality of their training and they will not waste their personal time solving problems like that.

Our final suggestion is to make stripes on the floor in the gym more clear. We play at this games very often so balls are in a bad condition. To my mind, it won’t cost much but we will enjoy playing more. Besides, many of my classmates are in football and volleyball teams so it is important for them to prepare for competitions but it is hard to do it with a bad equipment. I am convinced that their trainings will be easier with new balls and our school will have more prizes in competitions.

Secondly, we discussed and decided that we would like to play badminton at school. It is really interesting for us so it will motivate students to attend PE lessons. It will be great if you buy bats and shuttlecocks for this game. Our school already has a field so this equipment is all we need.

The last thing that came to our minds is to buy helmets for students who don’t play at games such as volleyball and basketball and just sit on a bench. It seems to us that it is an important thing because students who play can accidentally hurt others. I have been in this situation many times so helmets can protect students from injuries.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Your faithfully,

Diana Klueva, 11b

Hi Mel,

What an unexpected story! I hope you're alright now.

At first, I would recommend you to use google maps on your phone. Google maps is a mobile app to navigate the location where you are. Or you can also ask some strangers the way to your office building.

Secondly, I think you should use a document folder to keep your files in the correct order and don’t loose anything. And you can also train your self-control by getting an yoga class at the free time.

Hi Ellie,
????? Thanlks for your letter.....

It’s a great idea! Of course, I think you should get a part-time job if you need some money.

At least, you will become more independent and you will now how to work. Also it is a great experience to learn a lot about money. ??? How to spend and how to save them. First job experience is very memorable so you will definitely remember it for the rest of your life. But be careful, it can affect your schoolwork and you can get easily tired. So, calculate your strength.

You asked, what jobs <del>do </del>teenagers usually do in my country. Well, I think a lot of adolescents from my country are working as waiters or barista. It is a good idea because you won’t work for a whole week so you have time for your schoolwork and it's a fast way to make money. This work is also active, so it definitely won't get boring. Besides, some of teenagers work in a promotion. They distribute leaflets on streets but it can be uncomfortable especially if it is winter. By the way, a lot of my friends work for themselves. For example, one of my friends draws very beautiful. One day, she just sat in the park and drew. A man came up and asked if she could draw his dog for money. He liked so much her drawing so now she is making money by painting. As you see, even a hobby can be a source of income.

And You said that you have a camera. In fact, I saw your photo, they are amazing! You can take a photo of people for money. Start from your friends and post your work in social medias. I’m sure you will find clients and at least you will enjoy it.

I hope it helped you. A lot of my friends from neighbourhood with the same age as you are working at the part-time jobs. That is an easy way for teenagers to have their first earned money.

Part-time job is a way to start being independent in your youth. It also will teach you how to deal with incomes. Fixed work schedule will force you to organise your time better and be more punctual. During a work time you’ll meet plenty of new people and some of them can become your new friends.

Hi Jack,

Thanks for your letter. I was glad to hear about your interest in part-time job.

Firstly, part-time job give you opportunities to get experience and become independent. Also it is a great way to add information about your working experience. However you need to be careful, it can influence on your study in university or school. So, analyze all cons and pros and make your own decision.

You asked about jobs which usually prefer teenagers do in Ukraine. I assume a lot of students from my country are working as waiters or consultant in shops. It is a good variant because you needn’t have a lot of knowledge for work. These jobs provide much communications, so it definitely won't be boring. By the way, a lot of my friends work for themselves. For example, one of my friend prefer stock trading.

Hi Ellie!

Great to hear from you!

For my opinion, a part-time job is a very cool idea for teenagers like we are. With it we get not only money, but also a good experience for our future, so I think you should definitely try it if you want!

In my country teenagers usually do jobs like promoting and helping other people with their house routine or pets. It isn’t easy at all to find a job here due to the age, so these are the most affordable options. You won’t get a lot of money from this, but it’s a good activity for the summer and something new.

Good question! I remember that a few letters ago you told me that you like pets! Why don’t you use this when you are looking for a job? You may ask some of you neighbours if they need help with their dogs, cats, etc. and agree on a price (charge )for which you will help them.

Binge watching has become a phenomenon in recent years, providing the way how people consume television series and movies. The practice of watching multiple episodes of a TV show or several films in one sitting has been made possible by streaming services like Netflix, Prime Video and others. Binge watching offers viewers complete immersion in a series or films without waiting for weekly releases. However, while binge watching can be an enjoyable and relaxing activity, it's important to be mindful of its potential negative effects on physical health and productivity.

Artem

The word “binge-watching” first appeared in the late 90s and became more popular with the beginning of a digital revolution. It means a TV series addiction, what is a big problem nowadays, growing thanks to many on-demand and streaming services around us. But why is it so common? Why people feel so big lust to watch 10-episodes series in one day, when it is absolutely available in any time? I think I have an answer.

As the research says, binge-watching has a strong connection with depression, loneliness, self-regulation deficits or obesity. So we can immediately understand the reason of it – fast dopamine. Yes, that simple. Human interest and lack of happiness make people addicted by bright screens, make them forget about reality, their problems and responsibilities.

Is it good though? I don’t think so. Binge-watching still has a bad influence on nervous system and causes attention issues. Maybe someday people will understand that and find a better way to be happy through daily routine, but now companies only keep up the problem on its peak.

In Summer 2023 all publics and media services were buzzing about brand new historical film – Oppengamer . In short mister Oppengamer was well known historical character , American theoretical and nuclear physicist , also widely known as the scientific director of the “Manhattan Project”, which was developed the first nuclear weapons during World War 2 . The film shows in detail the complete process of creating nuclear weapons, the prehistory of the main character , his personal life, the life of those times, all the physical experiments, as well as the trial that took place with the main character.

The plot was , in my personal view , impressive , characters play (acting) was amazing , about the professionalism of filming the staging of the shot , I’m silent, it’s a masterpiece . To be fair , I found just some downsides of this film – the duration is one of them. Because of this , some parts of the films were going painfully slow.

Recently I have seen movie "Napoleon” which is based on Napoleon’s Bonapart biography. It tells about his life, how he became the most influence person at that time and shows THE atmosphere of life in those times. This movie had a lot of attention this autumn and has mixed reviews as to tell about history right is quite hard.

For me , THE events that are in this film were very interesting because it has a big value in history, although a movie was a bit boring and painfully slow sometimes. There were qualitative decorations and special effects.

A lot of time assigned Napoleon’s relationships with his wife Josephine. I think she is A very strong woman. She couldn’t have children so Napoleon searched for different ways to have a son to continue his genus. There is also an interesting moment that having a son was necessary at that times.

Many scenes are about his fights and offensives. How Napoleon calculated strategy and benefits for his side. (why separate para?)

I guess times are different at all now but something is the same. People are still fighting. There are still wars in different countries. The only thing that has changed is instrument for fighting. While I was watching a film, I had the only question in my head “Why?” Why people are fighting? For what? Does it make any sense?

In summary, I am convinced that it is important to watch such movies to understand the world history. Also, it is very interesting and expands worldview.

"Pearl Harbor" is a historical film which tells the story of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour in 1941, that drew the United States into World War II. The film primarily focuses on the love triangle between two best friends, Rafe and Danny, and a nurse named Evelyn, set against the backdrop of the historic event.

The movie shows the chaos and devastation of the attack, with intense action sequences and special effects. It also highlights the bravery and sacrifice of the American soldiers who fought against the surprise assault. The love story between Rafe, Danny, and Evelyn adds a personal storyline to the larger historical narrative, showcasing how ordinary people were involved in extraordinary events.

I personally think that this film perfectly conveys the atmosphere of those times, the realism and scale of the scenes is amazing. In terms of differences between the period showed us in the film and today, one notable aspect is the technology and war tactics. World War’s technology was far less advanced compared to modern warfare, with limited communication and weapons.

Overall, "Pearl Harbour" offers an exciting moment in history, blending action, romance, and patriotism. While some critics have noted historical inaccuracies and melodramatic elements, to my mind, the film succeeds in capturing the emotional impact of the attack and the resilience of the human spirit in times of crisis.

Artem

Not long time ago, I watched the film “The Current War” with my boyfriend, which came out in 2017 and not quite internationally successful. It is a two-hour<s>s </s>long historical drama with Benedict Cumberbatch, Michael Shannon and Nicholas Hoult in the leading roles, which takes place in the late 19th century.

The story is about a series of events associated with the development of competing electrical transmission systems in the late 1880s and early 1890s or , in other words, – the war of currents. The main characters of this film are quite famous and great people – Tomas Edison, George Westinghouse and Nicola Tesla. People, whose discoveries, inventions and ideas in electricity spread all over the world and made our life better in the modern life. Thanks to them, we are able to use electricity at home, the streets of our cities glow at night and a lot more.

For me , it was really interesting so see how things that are common to us developed in the past and how the modern world differs from what it was before. In my personal view, the atmosphere of old times is very well shown in the film, the lighting and color correction were stunning. The plot is also cool, the only downside<s> of it - </s>ISthat, despite an interesting topic, sometimes it was just painfully slow. Maybe I have even fallen asleep a few times while watching it. I guess it happened because watching the story from the perspective of the inventors was a little complicated, so this film can even be called thought provoking. And in the end, I liked the choice of actors. I think they did a great job and look very similar to the people they play.

To sum up, I recommend to watch (ING)this film if you are interested in electricity and history, but not as a Friday-night entertainment with friends. I personally wouldn’t watch it again and on the streaming platforms, I would rate it as 7 of 10.

Money talks – the slogan of many people in the world in the past and nowadays. When education, position in society, lifestyle, and others depend<s>s</s> on it, <s>not to think </s>thinking so is very difficult. But not everything is so clear. Let me explain what I mean by the example of being successful.

Whereas the ball in the space named Earth keep spinning, our world develops and grows swiftly every day. Our mind changes too, but many of us still think that being well-off equals being effective. What (That)is not like that.

In fact, much more well-paid people on the high post weren’t born with a silver spoon in their mouth, as you might think. And even now, in the internet, people without friends and connections HAVE become popular just for <s>their</s> individuality. Perhaps they don’t have an education, but they found themselves and their income in the area they like and that’s something that shuts the money up. It is a modern opportunity.

And of course, sometimes this system has its own flaws and you can stay with your own opinion, but I think we should be more positive and give ourselves a chance <s>for</s> to develo<s>pin</s>g <s>to</s> the power of the mind.

I guess everyone has heard about the idiom “Money talks”. But does everybody think about the truthfulness of this words?

To my mind, it is absolutely true. Of course, happiness is not in money but I guess that a lot of people will <s>be </s>agree with me that money gives you more possibilities and you can afford different things and emotions, which will make you happier and more confident. One of the important keys is that you can supervise your health in more detail (thoroughly, effectively, closely - adv,), provide yourself or your children with a good education, or saturate your life with different emotions, such as travelling. But you need to understand that money is a valuable resource and you have to know how to use it. For example, children from wealthy families know how to live in a great way from the beginning of their lives and often don’t appreciate this (take it for granted). While people who went from rags to reaches know how it can be hard to walk this path to independence from money and how you need to tight the belt sometimes, so, it is important (crucial/ vital/ essential) to teach children how valuable money is. But it is also useful not to get used to cash if you have a large amount of money when earlier you didn’t have such an opportunity.

In conclusion, money really can make your life better but don’t forget that there are other types of happiness.
