I believe that the theme of the book was "the decision to do your best may not always create the desired consequences or results". One piece of text evidence is the scene where Catherine showed Jason the together card in chapter 17. She was trying to do her best at making Jason feel normal by making him communication cards and adapting to be able to be his friend. Although after she showed him the together card instead of Jason being happy he was angry. Other similar scenes like this are brought up in the story. So this is why I believe that "the decision to do your best may not always create the desired consequences or results" is the theme of the book.

I think it is important to be honest with your friends because if you are not honest with your friends then they won't trust you. Trust is very important in a friendship. One time Catherine was not honest with Kristy is when she did not tell Kristy about Jason in a wheelchair. For a long time she did not know and that was dishonest. They forgave each other in the end but it was unkind of Catherine not to tell her about Jason.

This also caused Kristie to not be friends with Catherine. This is why it is good to be honest with your friends.

By telling a lie it made things a lot worse then it should have been if she just told the truth.

The text supports the theme be honest with your friends when at the dance Catherine apologizes. As we remember the last chapter i believe it was. In this chapter Catherine apologized to Jason and to Kristi. She apologized to Jason for not wanting to be judged when with him. Catherine apologized to Kristi for not being truthful about Jason. This supports the theme of be honest with your friends because. These actions such as not being honest with both of her friends this caused Catherine great pain. For Catherine had a lot to handal such as the guilt of being dihonest waying down on her changing her actions.
