In the first stanza of "Anthem for Doomed Youth", the focus is on the soldier that do not survive in the war and the fact that they do not get a proper burial, this is brought about through the line 'what passing-bells for these who die as cattle' telling us that they are sent off like animals for slaughter and left to die there. Without the chance to say final good-bye's.

In the second stanza, the focus is shifted to the friends and family who wait at home for their loved ones to return or to hear the sad news of their passing, without a way to lay them to rest. the use of the word "boy" correlates with the use of "Youth" in the title, bringing to front how young the soldiers and family are when the war started.

The second stanza changes rhyming pattern to e-f-f-e-g-g. By ending the last two lines with the same rhyming pattern, the poem is led to a close. As rhyme often lends stability for the reader as it is a well known trait for poems, the ending is clearly defined - further by the words themselves "a drawing down of blinds".
Owen doesn't always adhere to traditional rhyming patterns however this poem follows a fairly traditional scheme.
The second stanza was 2 lines shorter than the first and speaks of the people left at home, worried about those at war. Perhaps this is because Owen focuses heavily on the experiences of war rather than the people at home, and this is why the stanza is longer.
