To me this is a case of Greenwashing. Why? Because I believe there is insufficent evidence to prove the company is rather engaging in free market enviornmentalism. 
Your opinion however may be different.
But rememeber, this is a for profit corporation that relies on an ever higher rate of consumption of its products, but yet is promoting an anti consumerist sentiment.
The result - the company has increasing revenues & has avoided the neccessity to reduce the enviornmental impact of its products.

They chose 67 acres of land off Cloughjordan town in Tipperary.  

In 2005 they raised enough money and gained planning permission and began to build their eco village 

In 2008 the recession hit and 50% of investors pulled out of the plan and in 2009 the remaining people became Irelands first eco village residents  

In 2011 they planted 17000 trees 

By 2012 the village had fibre optic, solar panels, a hostel an eco-enterprise 

In 2013 they won the green oscars 

In 202 they were finalists for the transformative cities award 

Castro Verde in Portugal,is an EU-funded nature-friendly farming scheme has created an ‘island of nature’.The scheme promoted traditional land use with one year of crops followed byseveral years of extensive grazing by sheep. This ensured that a unique flora and fauna was preserved. Castro Verde is now a UNESCO world heritage site

·      Fashion industry one of the biggest in the world, accounting for 2% of GDP.

·      After the  oil industry, fashion is the worlds second biggest contributor to pollution because of fast fashion.

·      Fast fashion- cheaply produces and prices garments pumped quickly 

o   out of stores in order to maximise current trends.

·      Fast fashion retailers grew by 9.7% between 2010 and 2015

·      This is very worrying from a sustainability perspective.

·      Globally we now consume about 80 billion of new clothing each year.

·      This is 400% more the what we were consuming 2 decades ago.

·      The average U.K shopper wears only 70% of what’s in their wardrobe and throws out 70 kilograms of textile waste annually.

·      In Australia 85% of textiles bought are sent to landfill every year.

·      Australia are the second largest consumer of new textiles after the U.S.

·      On average 27 kilos of new textiles per annum.

·      Clothing and textile industry = depleting  non- renewable sources, emitting huge quantities of greenhouse gases and using massive amounts of energy, chemicals and water.

·      Synthetic fibres favourited by fast fashion brands e.g.- polyester, nylon and acrylic, are a kind of plastic made from petroleum.

·      This means they could take up to a thousand years to biodegrade. 

·      According to a study in 2011 a single synthetic garment can generate more then 1900 micro plastic fibres in one washing machine cycle.

·      From a social perspective fast fashion industry is harmful.

·      April 2016 Oxfam report- more then 60 million people work in the garment industry to fuel fast fashion: more than 15 million of those are based in Asia and more then 80% are women, often from young and poor rural backgrounds.

·      Asia supplies more then 90% of the garments imported to Australia.

 

o   To tackle this issue and become a conscious consumer there are many steps you can take.

·      Recycle or repurpose your old clothing

·      Choose quality over quantity—avoid cheap garments made from synthetic 

·      fabrics Support ECA-accredited brands

·      Encourage your favourite non-ECA-accredited brands to get accreditation 

·      Participate in clothes swap events, or exchange old clothing with friends and family.
