One misconception is that Project Based Learning takes too much time. The Edutopia article that I read contends that some projects might be as limited as two weeks. Not all of the day must be dedicated to Project Based Learning. The article states that with practice, planning project gets easier. ~ Laurie Mattern

Students working on projects is not "Project Based Learning" ~ but rather the learning - curiosity, problem solving, and interest drives the project. I read an article that quoted PBL is "project based learning not learning based projects." The emphasis is on the LEARNING ! ~ I love that concept!
MIchelle Singleton

Based on an article I viewed, it states the most common misconception is time. In addition to that, many feel you have to fully transition to PBL format, which is not the case. To introduce and build rapport, it is recommended to start with 1 or 2 PBL a year. This not only helps the teacher transition to this new method of teaching, but also allows students to become self-learners. Another misconception is that schools do not have the technology support. Teachers need to build a better understanding of the technology tools available and how to incorporate them into the classroom. ~Kami Houk

One misconception people have about PBL is that it is the same as making something, or doing a hands-on activity. It is actually so much more than that! Yes, there may be hands-on learning in some cases, but the creative learning and problem-solving complex challenges is really what PBL is about. We want students to stretch their thinking, and their critical thinking skills, building not just on their prior knowledge, but what they learn and discover along the way.
