The organization ACLA noticed that we have a major problem in America sending kids to jail for minor wrongdoings when these problems should be handled in school. The ACLA believes that students should be educated rather than incarcerated; they are working towards putting a stop to the school to prison pipeline by challenging numerous policies and practices within public school systems and juvenile systems. This website explains that the pipeline begins when schools do not have the funds for "Extras" mean counselors, textbooks, etc. this doesn't give students the right resources for a good education so this eventually leads to dropout. Also a lot of schools enforce the no tolerance policy, meaning harsh punishments will be given to student who just commit minor wrongdoings, is is increasing the amounts of suspensions and expulsions, which leaves students unaccompanied at their house with no school work to do, which leads to trouble. Also a lot of schools now rely on the police officers place in that school to decide the punishment of a student rather than the teacher. This has led to an increase in juveniles in jail for minor things.

PBS describes the school to prison pipeline as an epidemic that is plaguing America. These be no tolerance policies in schools are increasing the rate of suspension and expulsion which are just pushing the kids back to the source of their unhappiness: their homes and communities, which are filled with bad influences, this leads to increase crime rate in students. Then the PBS website gave us some statistics about the pipeline mostly effects people of color and people who have learning disabilities and the increase in funds that are spent on incarceration.

Sen. Richard Durban held the first federal hearing about the school to prison pipeline in attempts to end this phenomenon that values incarceration over education. Some suggestions that were brought up that could end school to prison pipeline are:
- Create agreements with the police department and court systems to limit the amount of arrests made in schools
- Train teachers on the use of positive behavior supports for at risk students so problems could be handled in the classroom and the student could remain in school.
-List the specific offenses that will be punishable in the student handbook so if a student brakes a rule everyone no matter what their race is treated the same way.
