The theme I have chosen for The Great Gatsby is "materialistic goods do not last forever and will never provide you with true happiness" .Throughout the story, many people such as: Myrtle, Gatsby, and Tom use materialistic goods like money to get whatever they desire. They worry about it so much that it eventually only brings them bad luck and bad futures. In the story, Myrtle cheats on George with Tom because Tom has money. She wants someone who is rich and full of power. However, because Myrtle made that decision she is later killed. Next, Gatsby tries to get what he wants like Daisy with his money. He does not try to get Daisy back by talking to her and being genuine instead, Gatsby throws fancy parties in his spectacular house. Last, Tom has so much money and believes he is invincible. Tom gets whatever he wants and has a beautiful wife named Daisy; however, that is still not enough for him. Tom cheats on Daisy and that leads to bad things in the future.

For the theme I have chosen from the novel is "No matter how many layers that you place, the reality of your true self will always return to the surface." In the story almost every character puts on a sort of facade to hide their true selves to everyone else. A great example is Jay Gatsby who makes himself out to be this rich, well educated, and major socialite of the Eastern Establishment when he truly is not a member of this group. Jay Gatsby deep down is still the impoverished Midwestern Great Lakes farm boy that he was when he first ran off. Another character that this is true with is Daisy who appears to be a role model trophy wife who is social and capable of taking care of home life while Tom is out working and doing the work for the family. Underneath this Daisy is still the socialite and wild extravagant girl that only wants to be loved and cared for, and not thrown aside the second she provides an heir to Tom as she was in the novel. Even Nick is partially guilty of this as he attempts to get into the Establishment by holding his Yale degree and symbolism that it brought to then get himself established into High Society even though he can hardly afford such a life on his own time. For that I believe is the crucial and critical piece of the Great Gatsby's story and understanding.

The theme I was chosen for this novel is “Too much power and wealth can take away the kindness in a person, and you should not chase it” In the story you can see how the women, Myrtle, Daisy, and Jordan, are treated and looked at differently based on their social level. You can also see how they act differently and treat people differently. In the story Jordan Baker has been rich her whole life. This has made her careless about the other people because she will never have to rely on anyone for her needs. On the other hand, Myrtle Wilson has never been rich. Now that she is older and married to a man she thought was making good money, she is still poor. She now strives to find a man with money and power. Both these women show flaws when it comes to growing up in different social classes, and representing what it looks like when you grew up getting everything you wanted and when someone did not.

The theme i have chosen for the novel “The Great Gatsby” is that money and power are not known as things you need but are seen as a privilege and to not take advantage of it. Not everyone has money, not everyone has power, but everyone has love. Love is an extraordinary thing to have. With enough love it can sometimes be worth more than money and power combined. On the other hand love can be dangerous. When you love someone you would do anything for that person. An example of this theme in the book would be that Jay Gatsby moved right across from Daisy to try and get her attention. He threw huge parties and invited her to them so he could see her. This tells us that he was in love with her and went to extreme measures to try and be with her.

I want to touch on the subject of how there was affairs and so much "fake love" related events happening in the book. There was abuse towards Mrytle, and almost a mental abuse going on with Daisy. Daisy also was not 100% dedicated to her relationship because she showed affection for Gatsby that is considerd cheating. There was about two or three love triangles going on in this book, and its hard to miss. Daisy knew Tom was seeing someone everyone knew, but Nick.... until it was mentioned to him. Being caught up in more than one love triangle not only is shown to be mentally exhausting or challinging, but it can be phisically too, looking back on what happened with Mrytle

The theme I have chosen is "you can not run away from who you truly are." In the novel, Gatsby tries to run from his past by reinventing himself with a new name, new location, and lies from where he earned his money. This led to many digging deeper into his past and everything fell to pieces when his old life and occupations came to the light, causing arguements like the one between Gatsby and Daisy, that would eventually lead to 3 deaths. His new identity died with him and everyone close knew the truth of who he was, how he earned his dirty money, and his true intentions.

The theme i've chosen is how money can't buy you everything you want. In the story, Gatsby went through his adulthood bootlegging alcohol and making lots of money. He threw parties and had people over all the time to avoid the realization that he wasn't happy. He also tried to win Daisy over by moving across the country and showing money off. He even lied to her about his past and said that he came from a wealthy family to try and prove to her that he's good for her. Eventually he won over her heart but when he left for the war, she chose to marry Tom and after all he did for her.

The theme I have chosen for The Great Gatsby is "money can't buy your happiness." Gatsby seems to think he can get what he wants because he has money. Gatsby wants Daisy back but he doesn't try to communicate with her. Instead, he thinks he will move in across from her and throw parties to try and lure her to his house. Gatsby may think that will make him happy however, it's not going to last forever. Tom Buchanan also has that same sort of mindset. He has a wife and a daughter but still is not happy. Tom ends up cheating on Daisy because he thinks he can get whatever he wants.

The theme I have chosen is "Money isn't everything" Through the story many of the characters think money can make them happy. Myrtle cheats on George with Tom because he has money and George is poor. Tom is cheating on Daisy with Myrtle so he is not a good guy but George doesn't have money so she is not happy with him. Gatsby has a bunch of money and a big house but is not a good guy. He is a stalker and moved next to Daisy after they hadn't been around each other for years. He tracked her and moved across from her so they would "accidentally" meet up again. His money does not make him a good guy. Gatsby thinks his money will bring Daisy over to his parties since his house is so huge.

The theme I have chosen for the book is that money can't buy you everything. In the story Gatsby tries everything he can with money to get Daisy to be with him. For example, Gatsby throws lavish parties in his huge mansion to try and impress her instead of actually trying to talk with her. In Gatsby's case money couldn't buy him the love of his life or true happiness. Tom in the story has a beautiful wife and money yet he still cheats on her with Myrtle because he is not truly happy in his marriage. Also though Myrtle seems to be using him for his money and to get out of her marriage with George.

The theme I'm choosing for my essay from The Great Gatsby is, “wealth doesn’t mean righteousness.” What this means to me is that just because someone, like Gatsby or Tom, are rich and powerful doesn’t mean that what they do is righteous. Money doesn’t buy respect. Tom, being rich and powerful, ended up cheating on his wife, Daisy, because he believed that he was entitled to do whatever he wanted. Gatsby, also being very rich and powerful, made his riches doing something illegal during the time, which is in no way righteous. In the end both men decided that being rich meant that they were entitled to what they wanted. Gatsby thought that elaborate parties and a big house would draw daisy back to him. Tom thought that with his money would come women.

The theme I am choosing for the upcoming essay on "The Great Gatsby" will be "how everyone is dissatisfied by something." Jay Gatsby is in love with Daisy and wishes that he could have her over Tom. Gatsby also is dissatisfied with his past therefor he uses his current wealth to try and please new and relevant people. Tom is dissatisfied with the fact Daisy ended up having an affair on him with Gatsby. Jordan was dissatisfied with most things and would lie to get her way. Myrtle was dissatisfied with her marriage. In my essay i will further explain who was dissatisfied with what and how it affected them and the others surrounding them.

The theme from The Great Gatsby that I chose is the American Dream. In The Great Gatsby Gatsby was born into a poor family but rose to be one of the richest and most popular citizens. He wanted to become rich and marry Daisy but his dreams only became partially true. He became rich from bootlegging and famous for his big parties. His dream to marry Daisy never came true and he was obsessed with trying to get Daisy to fall in love with him. The parties he threw were to impress her. He became popular from the parties but after his death no one went to his funeral because he was only popular for the parties he threw not for the person he really was.

The theme I chose for The Great Gatsby is the corruption of the American dream. Three main points of the American dream include discovering new things, accepting your individualism, and discovering your pursuit of happiness. However, certain things in the novel have corrupted these three points listed. For example, Myrtle Wilson had an affair with Tom Buchanan. Tom was known to be a very wealthy man, but George Wilson, Myrtle’s husband, was very poor. This example proves that the characters in the novel allowed riches to get in the way of their American dream. Another way we can see the decline of the American dream is from the underworld business Gatsby was a part of, and all of his elaborate parties. This represents easy money. Gatsby participated in illegal things just to increase his riches. He did this in order to gain back Daisy. However, in the end, his plan did not work out the way he expected. Therefore, from the examples given, we can see the corruption of the American dream through the novel.

The theme that I have chosen from the novel “The Great Gatsby” is the theme of moral decay that is portrayed throughout the entire book. The book shows us many examples of this. For example, the Valley of Ashes is a symbol that shows what wealth does to society. It eventually dwindles it down to nothing, or "ashes". This undesirable thirst for wealth leads people to let that greed take over and control their life, ultimately causing their demise. Another example of moral decay in the novel is everyone being extremely dishonest. It’s as if everyone is wearing a mask. Take Gatsby for example. He got so tired of living in poverty that he moved to New York, changed his name, starting doing illegal crimes, and eventually became extremely wealthy, in hopes of regaining his lost love.

The theme I have chosen from the novel is "Following the american dream." Throughout the story Gatsby is working hard to be able to accomplish his american dream. . An example would be Gatsby reaching out to touch the green light, this is related to the american dream because it symbolizes something that Gatsby is trying to obtain but can not. Gatspy is a good example because he worked his way up from rags to riches even though he did not accomplish it in a legal way. The american dream is also portrayed throughout the story because everyone wanted money and to have a good time, also many people migrated to america from Europe seeking wealth and freedom. This is why i chose to do the theme “Following the american dream.”

Because he earned his money in a way the wasn't right he had lost the trust and admiration of several people, but at the same time his wealth made people idle him.

Personally, i want the touch up on the reoccuring theme of thinking money and materialistic thigs will bring happines. All throughtout the book you will see the characters seeking out for money as if it will make the happy forever instead of monets of happiness. Myrtle is a great example she chased money, cheated, and even obtained that money and materialistic things and bad things still happned to her. Gatsby had the same thought process and after all that greed for money made him lose more things because he didnt have value for those non materialistic things because thought that would bring him happiness and power.
