Martin Luther King. Jr always saw the positives in others and through his actions have advocated for people to open mind there mind towards any and every race. Even in today’s society King is brought up regularly which demonstrates he represented change and showed people a new outlook for those who have different coloured skin. (Ushistory.org, 2019). Martin used his talent of communication to connect with large groups of people at functions and meetings to discuss with people about equal treatment for all races. He did this through boycotts, protest and marches. Kings whole life was dedicated into transforming peoples view on Africa American people and allowing them to live in peace and harmony. His work for the civil rights movement led legislation to past against racial discrimination. (Thekingcenter, 2019) Sadly, however not everyone has the same point of view as King and fought deeply against the human rights movement. The majority of white Americans at the time enjoyed how they were consider higher in the social hierarchy and received many privileges and were consider better than the African Americans. King faced a lot of backlash for his fight for racial equality and on January 27 received a threatening phone call, which did more good than harm as he had a spiritual revelation which showed him that his fight for change was needed more than ever. Only three days after the phone call, at 9:15 pm his family home was bombed while his young daughter and wife were in there, but luckily were not harmed. Although he would have been angered by the attack he ordered no retaliation from the provoked crowd who gathered outside his home. (Stanford University, 2019).

King's worldview compared the worldview he was facing

Martin Luther King Jr. was brought up having an incredibly strong passion for racial equality and had been surrounded by Lutheran Churches all throughout his upbringing. His childhood has involved him deeply within the church and has led him to have a strong Christian faith. His father’s ethics defiantly have influenced him and has brought him down a similar path as him, for Martin he feels as though it’s his calling and purpose in life to fight against racial prejudice. (Thekingcenter, 2019) He was fortunate in his situation that he could speak and address people publicly as the majority of black people would not have been accepted in that role. His Lutheran background gave him morals which he stuck by, as he never did a violent protest or acted viciously towards anyone. Instead he used his insightful and empowering ability to connect with people. The words which he spoke motivated people of all races to come together as one and accept each other. During his fight for change he was facing against white supremacy where people believed they deserve better treatment than that of a African American.

(YourDictionary, 2019)

How he inspired me and challenged my worldview

Learning about Martin Luther King Jr. and his push for change during a crucial point of history for African American citizens in the United States was fascinating. I already have a strong passion for equality no matter the race, gender or religion, however learning about Martin Luther King Jr. has opened my eyes to the inspiring life he led and the impact he has made in history. Through my research he has undoubtedly risked his live to change the lives of the future African American citizens. Many of the white American’s were outraged by the civil rights movement which made him a target and an enemy for many. He ended up being shot and lost his life because of his strong passion for change. The fact that he dedicated his life towards changing and helping the lives of others is what most impacted me and inspired me. His perseverance for change challenges me because I have always been in a society which is accepting of me and allows me to pursue my passions. When comparing both our world views I notice that sometimes I forget what is happening in the rest of the world and I am just focused on myself. His worldview is focused around equality and changing the course of the future for the greater good of others. This doesn’t challenge my worldview, but more so I want to incorporate it into my worldview and life. His selfless and passionate character is something I aspire to be and has not only inspired me, but the world.
