The 19th amendment was passed in 1919 which allowed women to vote, giving them a voice. They also began focusing on careers more due to the fact that they were starting to get more opportunities like teaching and nursing. Women roles in marriage and society modernized, birth rates declined in the 1920’s and women dated for longer amounts of time. Flappers were known as the rebellious young women that went against the communities standards. A flapper would wear blush, kiss proof lipstick, short dresses, long beaded pearls, and she would cut her hair short, this would set a new image for some of the women in America.

Due to the black market and all of the competition, there was lots of violence as gangs fought for territory.
